Thebrothersworkedthroughthewinterof1894.TheyrecognizedtwomainproblemswithEdison’sinvention:

theKinetographwasalargepieceofmachinery,whichresignedittotheworkroom;theviewer(底片看片器)meantthatonlyonepersoncouldexperiencethefilmsatatime.Withinayear,theCinematographewasborn.Itwasmuchsmallerandcouldbeviewedbylargeraudiences.

LouiscameupwithanewdesignformovingthefilminsidetheirCinematoscope.Hewasinspiredbytheirregularmovementofasewingmachine,asitwouldalloweachframetobestationary(停止的)justlongenough.Toachievethis,hecreatedtinyholesalongthesidesofthefilmstrip(胶卷),andusingashortthinpieceofwire,hefastenedthefilmtothemachine’smotor.Acontinuousdisplayofframeswouldthengivetheillusion(错觉)ofmovement.
