Thencamethebigday.OnApril15th,2014,Malavathand16-year-oldAnandKumaralongwiththeirguideShekharBabuandateamofSherpas(夏尔巴人)beganthedangerous8,848-metertrek(艰苦跋涉).WhilemostclimbersattemptthepeakfromtheslightlyeasierNepaleseside,thisteamhadtogoviatheharderTibetanside.That’sbecausethegovernmentofNepaldoesnotallowanyoneyoungerthan16toclimbuptheroute.
Itwasnoteasy.Infact,Malavathwassentbacktothebasecampaftersheexperiencedaltitudesicknesswhenshegottotheadvancedbasecampsetupatanaltitudeof6,400meters.However,theyoungsterreturnedthreedayslater,andinsistedoncontinuing.Ittook52days,butonMay25th,2014,Malavath,whomadeittothesummitafewminutesaheadof16-year-oldAnand,proudlyraisedhercountry’sflagatthetopoftheworld.Theyounggirlhopesthatherachievementswillinspirepoorgirlsallovertheworldtotrytoachievetheirdreams.
