PerhapstoavoidtheGalileoproblem,theNobelFoundationdidstateclearlythattheawardbegivenonlytolivingpeople;thatrulewasmadeformalinthe1970s.Buttheruleagainstposthumous(死后的)awardshasnowbeenviolatedseveraltimes—mostrecentlythismonth,whentheprizeinmedicinewasgiventoDr.RalphM.Steinman,ascientistatRockefellerUniversity,whodiedthreedaysbeforehiselection.Hisdiscovery,calleddendriticcells(树突细胞),tookplacein1973.
