Theadventoftheinformationagehasbombardedthepublicwithnumerousnewsandmanypeoplespendagreatdealoftimegoingthroughnewseveryday.Somepeoplearesuspiciousofthesenewsbecausetheydonottrustthejournalists,whileIamconvincedthatasuccessfuljournalistwithcertainqualitiescouldprovidetruenewsreports.

Admittedly,somuchnewsonsocialmediaisfakeandwrong,whichhasbecomeoneofthemostconcerningaspectsofthemediaenvironment.Accordingtoarecentsurvey,onlyabouttwo-in-tenAmericanstrusttheinformationtheygetfromlocalnewsorganizationsalot,whetheronlineoroffline.Thereasonbehindthelowtrustrateisthatsomesitesarecreatedwithpre-existingviews,andmorethanthat,otherspresentfactsthatareactuallyfalseorbiased.However,inthefastgrowinginformationage,weasreadersmustdevelopskillsandstrategiestodistinguishbetweenrealjournalismandwrongones.Wecannotbelievethoseso-calledfactssimplybecausetheymatchuptoourownpreconceptions.

Giventhatlossofpublictrustcouldbejournalism’sgreatestchallenge,journalistsworldwideshouldequipthemselveswithanumberofgoodqualities.Firstly,theyshouldhaveastrongdesiretounearththetruth.Inotherword,averypassionatepersonisenthusiastictogetinformation,uncoverscandalsandinformpeople.Secondly,agoodjournalistmustbeanextremelydisciplinedpersontobeabletoworkstrictdeadlines.Stayingpunctualissignificantorelsepeoplewillnotbeabletotrusttheinformationreported.Thirdly,ajournalistmustbeobjectiveandaccurate,nomatterwhatthesituationis.Thereportedstorymustbefreeofanyprejudiceandbereportedasitis.Journalistsmayhavetheirownchoiceswithregardstopoliticalpartiesandleaders.However,itisimportanttokeepthemasidewhencoveringastory.Moreover,journalistsshouldbeopentonewideasandviewsandshouldnotcoverstorieswithanypreconceivednotions.Inadditiontotheabovementionedqualities,itisalwaysbetterifajournalisthasexpertknowledgeofthebeatheintendstocover.

Inconclusion,thefactisthemediaisdistrustedbylotofpeopleallovertheworld.Ifthejournalismindustrywantstoregainitsreputation,journalistsmustdotheirjobhonestlyandhonorably.

 

2.Newsmediaareimportantinmodernsociety.Whyaretheysoimportant?

Aretheirinfluencesgenerallypositiveornegative?

Inpresent-daysociety,modernpeopleareinteractingwithallkindsofnewsmediaincludingprintmedia,broadcastnews,andmorerecentlyonlinenewspaperaswellasnewsblogs.Thesemediaareimportantandcouldcausebothpositiveandnegativeeffectstothesociety.

Itisundeniablythatnewsmediahaveplayedanindispensableroleinmodernsociety.Obviously,newsmediatimelyprovidethepublicwithvastamountofinformation.CommunitiesandindividualsarebombardedconstantlywithmessagesfromamultitudeofsourcesincludingTV,billboards,andmagazines,tonameafew.Thesemessagespromotenotonlyproducts,butmoods,attitudes,andasenseofwhatisandisnotimportant.

Giventhepopularityandimportanceofnewsmedia,peoplestarttorealizetheassociatedpositiveimpact.Themediaarecreditedwithconsiderablepowertoshapeopinionandbelief,tochangehabitsoflifeandtomouldbehavioractively.Forinstance,somefinancenewscouldinfluencethewaypeopleinvesttheirsavings.Asfitnessmagazinesincreasinglyhighlighttheriskofasedentarylifestyleandobesity,moreandmorepeoplesetouttomaketheirweigh-lossplans,develophealthiereatinghabits,andexerciseonaregularschedule.

Despiteofthepositiveinfluence,newsmedia maycausedetrimentaleffecttothesociety.Withtheariseofnewmediathroughsocialmedia,therehasbeenanincreaseinfakenews.Forexample,theuseofTwitterandFacebookhasmadeiteasierforfalseormisleadingarticlestobeseen.Coco-Cola,asanexample,fundsafrontgroupbythenameofTheGlobalEnergyBalanceNetworktoconfuseconsumersaboutsodascienceanddivertattentionawayfromthemountingevidenceshowingthatsweetbeveragesareamajorcontributortodiseaseassociatedwithinsulinresistance,suchasdiabetes.Giventheerosionoftrustinthemediaandtherampantspreadofhoaxesviasocialmedia,itwillbecomeevenmoreimportantfornewsorganizationstoscrutinizecontentthatlooksandsoundsliketherealdeal.

Inconclusion,newsmedianotonlyofferpeopleinformationandknowledgebutalsoexertgoodandbadeffectsonthesociety.Inmyopinion,thosegoodeffectscouldoutweighbadonesifthemediacouldbeusedinawiseandappropriateway.
