AudihasunveiledtheTTclubsportquattro,asportscarbasedontheproductionTTwithadesigndrivenbythepurespeedsterconcept.Alimitedproductionseriesisbeingconsidered.

WiththeTTclubsportquattro,Audi'sdesignersintendtodemonstratethepotentialofthe2ndgenerationTT,bycreatingaconceptcardrivenbythe"puredrivingmachine"concept.

TheTTclubsportquattroishavingitsworldpremiereatthe26thWörtherseeTour,whichtakesplaceinWörthersee,Austriafrom16to20May2007.

AccordingtoAudi'sofficialrelease,"thepossiblesmall-seriesproductionofthismodelisbeingconsidered."

ExteriorDesign

TheTTclubsportquattrohasnohoodandnoA-posts.Anextremelylowwraparoundwindscreendeliberatelyevokesthespeedsterconcept.

Theflat,slightlytintedwindowstripsurroundsthecockpit.

Thepanoramicwindscreenandthetwohumpslocatedbehindtheinteriorinplaceofthehoodcompartmentarereminiscentofclassicracingcars.

Therolloverbarsarekeptflatterandatthesameheightasthesportsbucketseats.

Thefrontendisdominatedbythelargeairinletsandthesingle-framegrillewhichhasaluminiuminsertstogiveitsdesignahorizontalemphasis,whichmakesthecarappearevenflatterthanitalreadyis.

ThefourringsofthelogoarenotlocatedinthegrilleasonmostAudimodels,butonthebonnet.

Therearbumperischaracterizedbythevisiblestainlesssteelsilencer,whilethebladeunderneathunderscoresthevehicle’ssportycharacter.

Thedual-branchexhaustsystemwithitsovaltailpipesremindsAudiproductionmodelssuchastheRS4.

Thereisadeliberatelackofvisualinterruptionsinthesideline,accentedbytheabsenceofdoorhandles:

theTTclubsportquattroisopenedbyremotecontrol.

Themuscularappearanceisunderlinedbyenlargedwheelarches,the20-inchwheelswithtyresofsize265/30R20andthetrackwidth,increasedby80millimetres.

Thesizeofthetwoexteriormirrorshasalsobeenminimised.

Theexteriordesignfeaturesdarkshadesofgrey,withthecarbeingpaintedinDaytonaGrey,acolourthatAudiusedforthefirsttimeontheRS4andtheS8,whichformsacontrastwiththemetallicelements,withthegrilleandsidegrilleinGunMetal.

Astrongvisualcontrastisprovidedbythemanyorange-coloreddetails,fromthebrakecalliperstointeriorelementssuchastheinstrumentcowl,thearmrestandonthebackofthebucketseats.

Interiordesign

Aswellastheexterior,theinteriordesignwasdrivenbytheresearchforpurism.Itfeaturesracingbucketseatswithfour-pointbeltsthatarethreeincheswidth.

Manydetailsaremadeofaluminum,atypicalcharacteristicofAudi:

fromthespokesofthesteeringwheel,tothegroovedstructuredpedalsandfootrests,tothegearlevergateadoptedfromtheR8,andthegearknob.

Aluminiumisalsousedforthedoorpullandthedooropener,bothofwhicharecut-out,afeaturewhichfurtherunderlinestheinterior’spuristcharacter.

Thesillareahasalsobeenrestyledcomparedwiththeproductionmodel.Ratherthanbeinginterruptedbyasillstrip,itnowemphasisesthewidthofthecar.

Thenewdoorsilltrimislocatedfurtherinsidethecar,withthefloormatssportingtheTTlogoasanaluminiuminlay.

Thesurroundingstriponthetopshoulderisalsomadeofaluminum.

Inthefieldofentertainment,thecentralamongthethreeroundairventsintegratesaninterfacewhichcontrolstheB&OMP3playerBeoSound2,whichfitsexactlyintothecircularopening.

Theinstrumentclusterisverydifferentfromtheoneinaproductionmodel.

Theverticalneedlesandcolourgraphicsaretheeye-catchingfeatures.

Theclockandodometerhavebeenomittedinkeepingwiththecar’sunderlyingpuristphilosophy.

Theblackleatherseathasalaserpatternworkedintoit:

itwasspeciallydesignedfortheTTclubsportquattroandplaysontheTTlogo.

TechnicalFeatures

TheracingcharacteroftheAudiTTclubsportquattroisunderscoredbynewtechnicalfeatures.Thankstoamodifiedintakemanifold,theturbocharged2.0TFSIenginenowdeliversmorethan300hp,comparedtothestandard260hpoftheproductionS3.

Thedualclutch,6speedStronicdirect-shiftgearboxcanbeoperatedbothinautomaticandmanualmode,withgearshiftstakingjustfractionsofasecond.

Theenginecompartmentlooksextremelyclean,thankstoalackofcablesandauxiliaries.Anyway,theunithasnotbeenhiddenunderacover.

Thecrossbracerunningabovetheenginenotonlymakesthecarmorerigid,butalsocontainsthecoolantexpansiontank.TheABSsystemhasbeenmovedfromtheenginecompartmenttotheinterior.

Othertechnicalhighlightsincludeanewtunedexhaustsystem,aracingairfilterandceramicbrakes.

Theabsenceoftheairconditioningsystemandstandardactivatedcharcoalfilterunderlinetheminimalisticandsportycharacterofthecar.

AbouttheWörtherseeTour

TheWörtherseeTour,betterknownasthe“GTIMeet”,hasbecomeamagnetforhigh-performanceenthusiastsandfansoftheAudiandVWbrands,withmorethan200,000visitorsandaround50,000vehiclesexpectedforthe2007edition.

Inconclusion,thenewTTisdefinitelyabeautifulandwell-designedcar.Wethinkthatimprovingtheoriginaldesignwasanimpossibletask,sincethecarwasalreadyperfectinitsform.

AudidesignershavedecidedtogoforamoreaggressivelookandtousesomeoftherecentAudistylingcues,liketheradiatorgrilleandthesharplinethatgoesthroughthesideofthecar.

Thisway,theTTlooksmoreintegratedinthecurrentmodelrange.

Anyway,weexpecttoseethenewTToneverydayroadtoknowifanotherdesign-miraclewasmade!
