Onceuponatime,inacertainforest,aharebuilthimselfahutofbark,andafoxbuilthimselfoneofice,closetooneanother.Thetwoneighbours

”answeredthehare,“Ihadahutofbark,andMr.Foxhadoneofice;hismelted,andsohechasedmeoutofmine,andsettledinit!

Yourmother’scomebackandbroughtyousomemilk,togivefoodanddrinktoherlittleones!

”Thenthekidswouldopenthedoortoletbherin,andthegoatwouldfeedthemwithmilk,andliedowntorestandhaveasleepandthenthenextmorninggooffagaintothemeadowswhichwerefaraway.Noonedaythegraywolfheardthegoatsingingtoherchildren,andhethought:

Asparrowonceperchedonabaldeofgrassandsaidtoit:

“Givemeaswing,bladeofgrass.”Butthebladeofgrassanswered:

“No,Iwon’t!

”sothesparrowflewofftothegoat,andsaidtohom:

“Mr.Goat,Mr.Goat!

Goandeatthebladeofgrass,becauseitwon’tgivemeaswing.”Butthegoatanswered:

“No,Iwon’t”sothesparrowflewofftothewolf,andsaidtohim:

“Mr.Wolf,goandeatthegoat!

Becausehewon’tgoandeatthebladeofgrass,andthebladeofgrasswon’tgivemeaswing.”Butthewolfanswered:

“Mr.man,goandkillthewolf!

Thentheoxenwentofftodrinkthewater,andthewaterwentofftoputoutthefire,andthefirewentofftoburntheman,andthemanwentofftokillthewolf,andthewolfwenttoeatthegoat,andthegoatwentofftoeatthebladeofthegrass,andthebladeofgrassgotaterriblefrightand

SAIDTOTHESPARROW:

“Sitdown,I’llgiveyouaswing.”

sothebladeofgrassstartedswingingthesparrowandsinging:
