I.Teachingideology:

Thecurrenttheoryviewreadingasaninteractiveprocesswhichinvolvesnotonlythereader’sknowledgeofthematerial,butthewholeknowledgeofthelanguageingeneral.Inreadingprocess,thefactorsaffectandcompensateeachother.Inrealclassroomteaching,thereadingteachingmodelscanbedividedintotwotypes:

top-downandbottom-upmodel.Andalsothereadingstagesisaccordinglypartedintothreestages:

pre-reading,while-readingandpost-reading.

II.Teachingmaterialandlearningcondition

Theanalysisofteachingmaterial

TheteachingmaterialisfromNSEFCModule5Unit2readingpassage.ThetopicofthisunitisthebriefintroductionoftheUnitedKingdom,especiallythatofLondon.ThispassagemainlyintroducesthehistoryofthefoundationoftheUnitedKingdom,thesimilaritiesanddifferencesbetweenthefourcountriesandspecificintroductionofEnglandandLondon.Thepassageconsistsof6paragraphs.ThefirsttwoparagraphsmainlyfocusonthefourpartsoftheUnitedKingdom.ThethirdparagraphmainlytalksaboutEnglandwhilethelasttwoparagraphisaboutLondon.Thetopicisacomplicatedonebecauseitcoversthesubjectsofhistoryandgeography.Therearealsosomenewwordsandphrasesinthepassage.Soitisabitdifficultreadingtaskforthestudents.

Theanalysisofthelearningcondition

Thestudentsarefromgrade2inseniorhighschool.Ashighstudents,theyhaveachievedcertainEnglishlevelandthehavetheabilitytogetthebasicideaofthereading.Sincethepassageisaboutamoderncountrywithcolourfulcultureandhistory,thestudentsareeasilyactivated.Withtheknowledgelearnedinhistoryandgeographyclass,theymayknowsomethingabouttheformationandhistoryoftheUnitedKingdom.However,theirvocabularyislimitedsotheymayhavedifficultiesinunderstandingsomesentences.

1.Bytheendoftheclass,studentscantellthehistoryoftheunitedoftheUnitedKingdomandtellthedifferencesbetweenthefourpartsoftheKingdom.

2.Studentscanscanthepassagetogetthespecificinformationsuchasthetimeorderofthefourinvaders.

3.Studentscantellthemainideaofthepassagewiththehelpofthecluesgivenbythemap.

1.Studentscanuseskimmingandscanningtogetthemainandspecificideaofapassage.

2.Studentscanexchangetheirideasbygroupdiscussion.

Languagefocus

Thisisareadingperiodsothefocusistocultivatethestudents’readingskills.ThemanyactivitiesaredesignedtohelpStotraintheirreadingskills,suchaspredicting,skimming,scanningandsummarizing.

ItisalsoimportantfortheSstomasterthenewwordsandphrases.

Anticipateddifficulties

AstheSshavealimitedvocabulary,sotheymayhavesomedifficultiesinunderstandingthepassage.Sotheteacherwillhelpthemlearnthenewwordsandphrases.

V.Teachingmethod

Three-stagemodel:

Basedontheunderstandingofreadingasaninteractiveprocess,teachingreadingintheclassroomisdividedintothreestagesinwhichthetop-downandbottom-uptechniquesintegratedtodevelopthestudentslanguageefficiencyingeneralandreadingstrategies.Thethreestagesarepre-reading,while-readingandpost-reading.
