“Thestudyshowedthatseniorswerehappywiththeexperienceandreallylivedit,”saysBruun-Pedersen.“Theyfeltasiftheyhadtoridehardertogetupthehillonthescreen.”

Next,theelderlysubjectsworeVRglasseswithsmallscreensinfrontoftheireyes.Thefeelingisverytruetolife,andtheelderlysubjectsvividly(逼真地)experiencedbeingoutinthegreatoutdoors—eventhoughtheywerestillonanexercisebikeintheactivityroom.

Someoftherecentlyuncoveredmuralsincludehieroglyphicsthatlabel(标注)thepeopleandobjectswithpictures.Thankstothepaintings,researchershavelearnedafewnewhieroglyphics,includingthoseforthewordscornandsalt.“Someofthehieroglyphicsarestillveryhardtounderstand,”SimonMartin,oneoftheexpertsstudyingthesymbols,explained.“Iwillbeworkingonthoseandhopetounderstandthem.”

Scientistsarebusyexcavatingtherestofthepyramid.They’renotsurewhytheMayascreatedthestructureorthemuralsonit,buttheyhopetolearnmoreastheycontinuetodig.Martinbelievesthereareatleastadozenmuralslefttobediscovered.Theworkwillbeslowgoingthough.Theancientpaintingsmustbetreatedwithcaresothey’renotdamaged.“It’sraretofindpaintingsliketheseinsuchgoodcondition,”Martinsaid.“Butweknowthattherearemorestilltobeuncovered.”
