ThemaintaskoftheBaseStationSystem（BSS）istoconnectthemobileusertotheNSSthroughtheradiointerface..ItcontrolsthecellularradiointerfaceandthetransmissionlinksbetweenelementsoftheBSS

TheNetworkSwitchingSubsystem（NSS）isresponsibleforsettingupconnectionsbetweenmobileusersandothertelecommunicationusers.Itmanagestheset-up,charging,andsecurityaspectsofthecall.
