English is a language. When human learns it, a lot of things need to be remembered

3、 such as grammar, vocabulary and so on. There is nothing more important than words for English learners. The key to learn English well is to master a large number of English words. However, how to remember English words quickly and firmly has been becoming a big problem. Some students may lose the i

4、nterest to learn English for they fail to memorize words. In order to help students solve this problem, English teachers should pay attention to cultivate students ability to bear in mind vocabulary fast in the process of English teaching. This thesis emphasizes the cultivation of ability to commit

5、words to memory in English class. In addition, this thesis applies information search, literature review and theoretical analysis methods. Based on the introduction of many special methods of learning English words put forward by researchers at home and abroad, four good qualities of memory are stat

6、ed, such as quickness, correctness, persistence and extractability. Based on the analysis of these qualities, this paper presents a series of strategies to improve the ability mentioned above, and from the aspects of theory systematically analyses and summarizes how to foster the word memory in Engl

7、ish teaching. These strategies include training students ability of ultra-short-term-memory, teaching students scientific methods to memorize vocabulary and teaching them methods of consolidating vocabulary. The final aim of this paper is to improve students memorization and make it not difficult fo

8、r students to memorize English words.Key words: Vocabulary memorization; Qualities of memorization; Strategies of memorization 中文摘要众所周知,不论学习什么,记忆力都是至关重要的,尤其是在英语学习的过程中。英语是一门语言,学习的过程中需要记忆大量的内容。词汇对于语言学习者来说非常重要。因此要想学好英语首先要掌握大量的词汇。然而英语单词的记忆则一直是学生学习英语所面临的重大难题。有些学生因记不住单词而失去了英语学习的兴趣。为了帮助学生快速记忆英语词汇,教师们应该在英语教

9、学中注重培养学生单词记忆的能力。本文强调英语教学中学生单词记忆能力的培养,采用资料查找法、文献综述法和理论分析法,在介绍目前国内外所提出的特殊单词记忆法的基础上,阐述了记忆力的四大优秀品质即记忆的敏捷性,准确性,持久性及提取性。根据记忆的这些优秀品质,本文提出了一系列的培养词汇记忆力的策略,从理论方面对在英语教学中如何培养学生单词记忆能力进行系统分析与总结探讨。这些培养策略包括训练学生单词瞬间记忆能力,传授学生科学有效的词汇记忆的方法和词汇巩固的方法。本文的最终目的是使学生的记忆力得到提高,使记忆单词不再是学生英语学习中的难题。关键词:词汇记忆;记忆的品质;记忆策略Table of Conte

Whatever they want to learn, it is necessary for them to own a good memory. Many stu

14、dents always complain that they do not have a good memory so that they spend lots of time remembering words or learning other things, but they forget what they have learned after a short time lapses. This phenomenon arises, because they fail to find good ways to memorize what they are learning. Teac

15、hers should help students master the strategies of learning and remembering words fast and firmly. The present chapter analyses the reasons and significance of the research and briefly introduces main contents of the study and its research methods. 1.1 Purposes and Significance of the ResearchDuring

16、 the long history of humans development, language has been playing the most important role in inheriting civilization. It is English that makes great contributions to build a bridge between people, who are from different countries and have different mother tongues. English, as a widely-used language

17、, is the carrier of the world science and technology progress, the international development and cultural communication. Meanwhile, English is a necessary tool for every social member who adapts to changing times and social development. Since the early 1970s, English has become the required foreign

18、language in secondary schools. So far, English has enjoyed nearly half a century of history in China. With the time passing by, China opens to the world, especially since it became a member of World Trade Organization. Nowadays, the number of English learners in China is increasing. Whats more, a co

19、mmon phenomenon can be seen that English is widely used in every corner of the whole world. It is not difficult for every person to draw a conclusion that it is essential to learn English well as possible as we can.English, as an instrument of communication, includes three elements: pronunciation, v

20、ocabulary and grammar. Vocabulary, as one of the three language factors, is the building material of a language (Mao Yayun, 2012). If languages are compared to a building, then grammar is the steel framework of the building and vocabulary is the blocks of the building. As a result, when learning Eng

21、lish, we should memorize a large number of words. Besides, vocabulary is also the tool to express thoughts and the minimal unit of language (Zhang Tiecheng, 2011). In the process of learning English, vocabulary learning occupies an extremely important position. Only if a variety of words are known,

22、English is learned well. However, it is how to remember words that is the most difficult task secondary school students confront. Although students spend plenty of time and energy remembering words, they can not always remember them. The reason is that students do not find scientific ways to memoriz

23、e words. It is pointed out that from the point of view of memory different materials have different methods to remember (Zhang Tiecheng, 2011). One important and necessary task of teachers is to cultivate students ability to memorize English words quickly in English learning. In other words, under t

24、he help of their teachers and their own efforts, students can be able to spend the least time memorizing the most words, improving English. 1.2 Main Contents of the StudyToday, English used widely in every place of the world, the ways to learn English become the focus of attention. However, the basi

25、s and key of learning is word memory. The famous American author and educator, Mr. L. Ronhubbar (1991) raises his educational theory that vocabulary influences understanding and application of English. The number of words mastered directly influences students learning effect of English. But memorizi

26、ng words has always been a major problem English learners are facing. The problem is that words are remembered slowly, but forgotten soon; the latter words may be memorized, the former forgotten. How to solve the problem has always been paid close attention to by educators, researchers and English t

27、eachers. How to improve students word memorization in English learning is one of the major problems the current research focuses on. It is necessary for English teachers to get rid of the conception that teaching words is just teaching words. When English teachers teach their students vocabulary, te

28、achers not only tell them words meanings and usage, but also teach students how to bear in mind words quickly, pay attention to develop students word memory ability. This thesis is written from the point of view of cultivating the ability to remember words. The paper is divided into five chapters. C

29、hapter one introduces the purposes and significance of the research, the main contents and research methods. International and domestic researches on improving words memorization are explained in chapter two. Chapter three mainly analyses qualities of memory: quickness, correctness, persistence and

30、extractability. Based on the previous discussion, chapter four puts forward effective strategies to improve students ability to memorize English vocabulary. This chapter includes three parts. The first part discusses how to train students ability of ultra-short-term-memory in English class teaching. The second part discusses some special and scientific methods to remember words, including phonetic method, clas
