8、nalysis method, induction, and textual analysis method. Through exploring the symbols, the writer can understand the meaning of the symbols and philosophy of life. The whole story is made up of straightforward, hidden, and complex symbols, demonstrating the authors life wisdom. This essay is to anal

Antoine de Saint-Exupry is no

10、t only an aeroplanist, but also a childrens author. Antoine loved adventure and freedom. When he was a little boy, he was a good thinker and liberalist. He was attracted by his aviation career. He opened up many new channel airlines during his service period. During the second world war, he enlisted

11、 in the army bravely to the country, and he devoted his life to his country unfortunately. He had a different vision from ordinary people to the life and the world maybe because he often overlooked peoples relationship. Hovering in the sky, he found that the planet was formed by hills, seas, sands.

12、In Antoines view, he thought human value wasnt given by God, but contributed to their own behaviors. He gained his reputation from The Little Prince, which was the most widespread fairy tale in the 20th century. Since 1943, The Little Prince has been translated into more than one hundred languages.

13、The work is based on the authors own life, narrating a story that an otherworldly little prince strives to seek the truths and dream. One of the most light spot is the use of symbols. He attaches triviality pregnant connation in order to satirize the adult world and reveal the innocence of children.

14、 The Little Prince premises the concern and love of each other and the world we live.This work is a fairy tale containing rich philosophy. It is a story full of wisdom and real human nature, expressing the authors rational thinking of the outside world and inner world. The symbolic writing has gener

By analyzing The Little Prince, the writer excavates the meaning of a new era of symbols, and analyzes them in particular view so that more aspects of The

Literature ReviewThe symbol research started in ancient Greece period, lasting two thousand years. The study of western symbol theory has four stages: The budding period of ancient Greece, M

18、edieval one-sided development stage, the characteristic development of the 18th and the 19th century, Diversified development stage in the late 19th century and early 20th century. In late 19 century, the European intellectuals dissatisfied with the temporal social life and the official salon cultur

19、e. They used symbols to make up another ideal world to express their feelings. That was how the modern symbolism came into being. In 1886, Jean Moreas, a French poet, published a book The Declaration of Symbolism, which symbolized the naissance of the Symbolism Genre. Charles Baudelaire, Arthur Rimb

20、aud, Verlaine were symbolism pioneers. They published a great deal of symbolism works. The research of symbol had been covered numerous fields from linguistics to psychology, poetics, philosophy, anthropology and so on, appearing the situation of interdisciplinary research.In the early 20s, in the r

21、ise of Chinas new literature, Modern symbolism works had been introduced in quantity. In 1920, Mao Dun began to introduce and translate modern symbolism literatures. Similarly, Lu Xun had a symbol of creative practice after the May 4th Movement. During 1926, symbolism had been presented. Briefly con

22、cluded that the development of theory of symbolization experience three stages: budding occurs, tortuous development and hard innovation.Since the advent of The Little Prince, praised as “The French Rose”, it has been loved by children and adults. Nowadays, many authors have elaborated the connotati

23、on of The Little Prince in different points of view, such as the view of “life philosophy and modern significance”, “love and responsibility”, “the relationship of children and adults”. In 1967, Paul studied the life and death of the little prince. He thought that the little princes living and death

24、 symbolized the life experience of Antoine de Saint-Exupry. In China, Ling Xuedong studied The Little Prince in the perspective of symbolism. Moreover, Li Qianjun and Li Xin studied the warning for future generations: being away from the alienation and returning to nature. In 2005, Liao Shasha uncov

25、ered the practical significance of The Little Prince, putting forward that it reflected the problems of the times of human society in second world war by applying symbolism. Nevertheless, JiangYamin analyzed this fairy tale in the aspect of exploring love, strengthening love of escape and return.As

26、the time went by, the study of symbolic writing tends to be mature. Many aspects are studied deeply. For example, the history of symbolic writing has been studied for many times. The purpose of the symbol is also researched widely. However, the function of the symbol can be investigated. In future r

27、esearch, we can study the images roles to promote the research progress.3. Two Kinds of Symbolic Writing in Different LevelsEvery single symbol in The Little Prince contains abundant meaning. According to the symbol of objective corresponding scale, there are two classes: the symbolic meaning of phy

28、sical world and that of mental world. And the former includes two levels. The first level is the straightforward and transparent symbolic meaning, and the second one is the complex and difficult symbolic meaning. In the first level, the king, the drunkard, the businessman, the lamplighter, and the g

29、eographer are flat characters. They can be labeled easily, so these symbols are easy to be understood. However, rose, snake and fox symbolize love, death and friendship. These need intensive study. The desert and the snake venom refer to birth and death, which are the philosophical problems, so the

30、second level symbols are complex. According to the symbolic meaning of mental world, it refers to humans inner world and the writing background, so they are profound. The little princes inner world and the contradiction relationship of children and adults are symbols, which need deep study. Each spe
