4、merica, from kin dergarte n through 12th grade. And I am just so glad that all could join us today. And I want to tha nk Wakefield for being such an outsta nding host. Give yourselves a big round of applause. (Applause.)I know that for many of you, today s the first day of school. And for those of y
5、ou in kin dergarte n, or start ing middle or high school, its your first day n a new school, so its un dersta ndable if youre a little n ervous. I imag ine there are some seniors out there who are feeling pretty good right now -(applause) - with just one more year to go. And no matter what grade you
6、re in, some of you are probably wishi ng it were still summer and you couldve stayed in bed just a little bit Ion ger this morni ng.I know that feeli ng. Whe n I wasyoung, my family lived overseas. I lived in Indonesia for a few years. And my mother, she did nt have the money to send me where all th
7、e American kids went to school, but she thought it was mporta nt for me to keep up with an American educati on. So she decided to teach me extra less ons herself, Mon day through Friday. But because she had to go to work, the only time she could do it was at 4:30 in the morning.Now, as you might ima
8、g in e, I wasnt too happy about gett ing up that early. And a lot of times, Id fall asleep right there at the kitche n table. But when ever rd compla in, my mother would just give me one of those looks and shed say, This is no pic nic for me either, buster. (Laughter.)So I know that some of you are
9、still adjust ing to being back at school. But rm here today because I have somethi ng importa nt to discuss with you. Im here because I want to talk with you about your educati on and whats expected of all of you in this new school year.Now, Ive give n a lot of speeches about educati on. And rve tal

13、nt gett ing the opport un ities that they deserve.But at the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive pare nts, the best schools in the world - and none of it will make a differe nee, none of it will matter uni ess all of you fulfill your resp on sibilities, uni e
14、ss you show up to those schools, uni ess you pay atte nti on to those teachers, uni ess you liste n to your pare nts and gran dpare nts and other adults and put in the hard work it takes to succeed.Thats what I want to focus on today: the responsibility each of you has for your educati on.I want to
15、start with the resp on sibility you have to yourself. Every sin gle one of you has somethi ng that youre good at. Every sin gle one of you has someth ing to offer. And you have a resp on sibility to yourself to discover what that is. Thats the opport un ity an educati on can provide.我讲了很多政府制定高标 准,支持
