6、eringHeightswerewrittenbythesameperson.emilysnovelwasbadlyeditedandreceivedmixedreviews.nonetheless,emilybegantoworkonhersecondnovel.in1848,ayearafterthepublicationofWutheringHeights,emilycaughtacoldatafuneral,which,withhertypicalstoicism,sheignored.thecoldsteadilydevelopedintoafarmoreseriousillness
7、,butemilyrefusedallmedicaladvice.atlast,barelycapableofbreathingwithoutgoingintoafitofcoughing,shesteadfastlyattendedtoherusualchores.afteremilyhadbeenillfornearlytwomonths,ondecember19,1848,shebrokedown.shortlyafter,shedied.andyet,sheisrememberedascharlotteoncedescribedher:“strongerthanaman,simpler
