1、 The Factors Which Affect Intermediary Business Development of the Agricultural Bank of ChinaWhether intermediary business can succeed depends on many factors. The Agricultural Bank of China (Agricultural Bank of China=ABC) is not an exception. It has many advantages as well as many restrictions. Ba

2、sed on previous analysis of intermediary business issues and present intermediary business development condition of the Agricultural Bank of China, this thesis lists ABCs advantages and disadvantages on intermediary business through making a questionnaire to collect data about present intermediary c

3、ondition of ABC. The data were innominately collected from 100 present interior employees in Tianjin Branch of ABC. In the following part, the author will make inductive statistics with the collected data, and will analyze these factors one by one. 7.1 Agricultural Bank of Chinas Advantages in Inter

4、mediary Business Development7.1.1 Bank outlets all through the countryOn outlet construction, ABC enjoys an obvious regional advantage. According to the questionnaire, 98% interviewees agree that ABCs outlet distribution and the arrangement of the branches and subbranches amount are reasonable. Acco

5、rding to the official homepage of ABC, by the first half of 2009, Agricultural Bank of China has 42 first class branches, 8 direct branches, 1 head office department, and 5 training schools. They can basically meet the daily demand. From the north to the south, from the snow-covered plateau to the e

6、ast seacoast area, from the prosperous metropolis to the remote country, wherever you are in China, you can feel ABCs existence. Full-order outlet distribution sets a convenient condition for its business, especially professional and systematic business. Meanwhile, ABC has set up branches in Singapo

7、re and Hong Kong, as well as representative offices in London, Tokyo, New York and so on. This has basically met the overseas clients bank business demand. However, there is still a large potential market in the overseas business for ABC. According to the questionnaire, only 45% interviewees think t

8、hat the overseas representative offices are enough, and there is large market potential for ABC to exploit. 7.1.2 The great variety of business itemsOutlets of Agricultural Bank of China are widespread all over China. This makes ABC a large scale state-owned commercial bank with the most outlets and

9、 the widest radiation scope of business in China. ABCs business has extended from original rural credit and settlement operations to all business items of domestic and foreign currency, providing various financial business accepted by home and international society. According to the questionnaire, 7

10、3% interviewees think that present intermediary business items are relatively complete. And for concrete business, 52% interviewees chose that corporate business is developing better, and 48% interviewees preferred money management business. In corporate intermediary business, corporate counseling a

11、nd money management are the most popular two, while monetary fund and money management counseling rank the top two among money management business. From the survey it is easy to see that Agricultural Bank of China has been developing rapidly to vary its intermediary business. However, more supplemen

12、tary work is needed in the long run to make all intermediary business developing harmoniously.7.1.3 Clients centered business systemAgricultural Bank of China covers the vastest business sector, owns the most clients and offers the whole set of business. 99% of the employees have accepted the ration

13、ality of the business system in the questionnaire. ABCs business is covering the cities, countries in China and even all over the world. The clients whose jobs cover much job fields are diversified. The business not only includes the traditional means such as counter business, door-to-door business,

14、 but also promotes the high technology business like Telephone Banking (95599), Personal Online Banking and self-business banking system. Even though, the counter business is still occupy the dominant position. The questionnaire survey shows that 62% of the people think the counter business has an a

15、dvantage in the implementation. Meanwhile, the Personal Online Banking and Telephone Banking business which are respectively accepted by 34% and 29% of the respondents have gained the highest degree of recognition among the intermediary business. Besides the regular financial products at home and ab

16、road, ABC also has established bridges for clients among the areas of securities, insurance and fund, etc. and even extended into every corner of the socio-economic domain. In addition, it can tailor-make the financial products according to every clients specific requirements. Whats more, it can pro

17、vide the “package financial scheme” for the client groups with specific working domains by the advantage of outlets into the counties. The abundant client-oriented managers will provide the business for the high-value clients. Therefore, the customer-centered business system has become an indispensa

18、ble factor in the competitive edge in Agricultural Bank of China.7.1.4 Powerful and advanced electronic networkRelying on the network all over China and employing the global cutting-edge technologies, ABC has established the largest domestic financial electronic network and realized the nation-wide

19、interconnection treatment for settlement business. Online network, ATM and POS network have covered every city of China. The clients would feel the convenience brought by the modern technology anytime and anywhere. The powerful advanced electronic network has also been recognized by the employees an

20、d 94% of employees think that the existing electronic systems are able to provide clients the fastest and most convenient business. Whats more, nearly 80% of the employees claim that more than a quarter of e-banking intermediary businesses can be accessible to them every day. And this proportion wil

21、l be rapidly growing by leaps and bounds with the accelerating pace and enhancing general strength of information technology construction in the future. At present, the data operation center of the head office shows that the daily trading volume has already reached nearly 8 million taking up a quart

22、er of daily trading volume of ABIS system in ABC. The domestic data center has entered the overall construction phase. We can see that the e-intermediary business will become the focus in ABC in the future.7.1.5 Bank card related to daily lifeBanking card transaction has always been the core busines

23、s in developing the ABCs intermediary business. 68% of the ABCS employees are able to deal with 40%-60% banking card related business every day. This shows the banking card business owns the core position in the intermediary business. Especially the popularity of ATM has guaranteed the convenience w

24、hen using the ABCs businesses. 34% and 56% of the respondents respectively indicate that there are at least two and one ABCs ATM around their living surroundings. With the convenient electronic banking means, people inevitably choose the ABCs banking card business. Relying on the advanced electronic

25、 means, “Golden Spike Card” has formed a city-centric business network covering the whole country. Whats more, it has been deep into peoples basic necessities, becoming an indispensable tool for financial management and means for payment and settlement. Until the June in 2009, the issuing volume of

26、banking card has reached to 420 million. The business earnings of banking card business keep sustainable increase. The questionnaire shows that more than half of the employees relatives know clearly about the specific contents of “Golden Spike Card” business. From author angle, this can also reflect

27、 that the business products are maturing and the market shares are increasing year by year. 7.1.6 Effective human resource managementABC vigorously implements the talent forced strategy and spares no efforts to explore the establishment of the incentive and restraint mechanisms for human resources a

28、ccording with the requirement of modern commercial banks. It has been maintained the preferable rationality in the staff positioning construction which is agreed by 88% of the employees. At the same time, ABC has also attached great importance to the recruitment, training, selection and appointment

29、to steadily improve the scientific and systematic standards of human resources management. In addition, ABC has made efforts in the personnel selection and appointment regulation which have been satisfied by 70% of the employees. ABC consistently insists on the organization and management system foc

30、using on the full staff study, the whole process learning and lifelong learning. Whats more, ABC has continuously improved the overall quality and structure arrangement of staffs, and strives to build a study-oriented bank. It attaches great importance to staff training, carries into extensive appro

31、aches and enhances the quality of training through a variety of ways. The remote training network construction has also made substantial progress. As to the job training, on the one hand it can average up the employees overall business and their level of knowledge; on the other hand, it has played a

32、 valuable role in employees personal cultivation and promotion. 81% of the ABCs employees show that job training experiences help them to achieve the ideal desired effects, which illustrates the effectiveness of vocational training in the working process.7.2 Agricultural Bank of Chinas Disadvantages

33、 in Intermediary Business Development7.2.1 Intermediary business items are not many, with a singular methodAccording to the questionnaire, 84% of the employees think that the intermediary business which ABC has exploited can not meet the market demand.
