7、ationTypical InstallationStep 5. Select Microsoft SQL Server Instance The database contains data about your backup set（s）, number of files, etc. You can have a MSDE or SQL database. The restriction for MSDE databases is that the size is limited to 2GB. 1. The installation checks the target computer

8、and one of the following will occur:A. If there is no MS SQL Server 2000 or MSDE instance is installed on the target computer, the installation will prompt you to install an MSDE Instance. The MSDE 2000 installation parameters screen appears.B. If more than 1 Instance of MS SQL Server 2000 and/or MS

9、DE are installed, a screen appears prompting you to select the Instance where the ds-client database will reside.Note: The MS SQL Server must be configured with a “case-insensitive” sort order.C. If only 1 Instance is installed, you go directly to Step 6. Select Installation Type.Step 6. Select Inst

Select the connection type:ConnectionDial-up If you use a dial-up adapter （e.g. modem, ISDN card, etc.）, select Dial-Up. Direct

17、 LANIn all other cases, （e.g. cable modem, a connection via router/proxy） select Direct LAN. Setup will skip to Step 10. Specify TCP/IP Parameters.Step 9. Select Dial-Up Network ConnectionIf you are using a dial-up line （e.g. ISDN, modem, etc.）, you must specify the Dial-Up NetworkConnection that th

18、e DS-Client will use.1. The Select Dial-Up Network Connection screen appears.2. Select from the list of phonebook entries, or create a new entry. These connections are set with the DS-Client computers Dial-Up Networking utility.A. You may add or edit phonebook entries, by clicking the New or Edit bu

19、ttons. These call the appropriate Dial-Up Networking screens.B. If you are using a dial-up connection to an Internet Service Provider, you can use the same phonebook entry.3. Once you have selected a connection, enter the User Name and Password to the dial up site. （i.e.: If this is your Internet Se

20、rvice Provider . enter your username/password to the ISP. If this is direct to the DS-System . enter the username/password issued by your Service Provider.）4. Click Next.Step 10. Specify TCP/IP ParametersThis screen displays the port numbers used by DS-Client and DS-System.1. The Specify TCP/IP Para

21、meters screen appears.Firewall RulesTCP Port 4401 incoming and outgoing traffic for DS-Client and DS-System.TCP Port 4403 incoming traffic to DS-Client from other DS-Users. （DS-User can be installed on other machines to access the DS-Client remotely without needing to login to the server. This port

22、does not need to be opened if you do not wish to install other DS-Users.）TCP Port 139 & 445 these ports need to be opened on the machines that are getting backed up by the DS-Client server. DS-Client connects through windows file sharing. Step 11. Specify DS-System AddressYou received the IP address

23、 of the DS-System. The DS-Client requires this address in order for it to connect to the DS-System.1. The Specify DS-System Address screen appears.2. Enter the IP address of the DS-System your DS-Client will be using. Your Service Provider may have more than one IP address for the DS-System, if this

24、 is the case you can specify any or all of them.Step 12. Set Default Generations1. The Specify Default Generations screen appears.2. Enter a number between 1-999 here:A. Each generation of a file takes up additional space on the DS-System.B. New generations are backed up if the source file was chang

25、ed since the last backup.C. The default number will appear for all backup items when new backup sets are created （this number can be changed manually in the DS-User GUI）.3. Skip compression on compressed files:A. DS-Client will not apply its compression to files identified as already being compresse

26、d. The Delta algorithm will not be applied either. This will save CPU time during backups.B. Uncheck this box to gain the potential of additional compression savings in terms of file transmission size. More CPU time will be used.Step 13. DS-Client Startup / Service Logon（Passwords cannot be more tha

27、n 15 characters.）1. The DS-Client Service Logon Account screen appears. You are prompted to enter the account for the DS-Client Service to use.2. Enter the Windows 2000 / XP / 2003 User Account and Password the DS-Client service will use in the appropriate fields:A. This must be a valid Windows user

28、 account that has already been created.B. This account should be a member of the Administrators Group.3. By default, the Auto Start box is checked. This means the DS-Client service starts automatically each time the DS-Client computer boots （recommended）.A. Uncheck this box if you do not want the DS-Client Service to start on reboot. （This means you must manually start the Service before you can use it.）Step 14.
