16、 beneficial for university students.One reason why I like students to be the focus of a class is because it forces me to do research on the subject.If I know nothing about the subject then I have nothing to contribute in class. Just as a good teacher prepares and does research then so must I.I have

17、founded that you only learn and master a subject when you have to youre your knowledge onto some else. A teacher-centred class is fine for foundational courses but at university level a student-centred class promotes research and original thinking.Another important reason is that most of the student

18、s take part in and so we can get many viewpoints and perspectives about the topic.It means that we look at the topic from many different angles and promote discussion and argument.Instead of only getting one persons viewpoint,we now get a more rounded and balanced grasp of our subject.In conclusion

19、if I have to choose between a teacher-centred and a student-centred class.I would choose the latter. Because it makes me do research about and becaude it promote discussions and alternative viewpoints.My first main point is that students are more motivated to learn in a student-centred class.They qu

20、ickly grasp the idea that if there is any learning to be done then they need to be in control of the learning process.Students learn not only how to research material .but also how to present it.One way is for students to work as a team on a seminar and this helps them to learn about cooperation and

21、 teamwork.Ideally, the teacher can take charge in the last part of the class and present any material that students may have missed. Practical Courses vs. Traditional CoursesUniversities Should Give Priorty to Practical Courses for StudentsWhile there is a demand for traditional courses from some st

22、udents,I think that universities should make practical courses a priority,and I have two good reasons to back up my argument.First ,with the rise in university enrolment there has also been a corresponding rise in graduate unemployment which now stands at 30 percent. Students go to university for th

23、e prime reason of getting a goog job on graduating. To be deprived of a job at the end of ones education means that four years of higher education has been wasted.Therefore, universities should ensures that the courses they provide will equip students for entering the job market and not the unemploy

24、ment queue and perhaps contributing to social disharmony.Second,there will an added emphasis on courses that are of practical use and not just academic and theoretical in nature. What students learn is of very limited use;and if they are fortunate to get a job,companies have to retain them in curren

25、t practices and methodologies.My answer would be to actively encourage companies to be involved in teaching, so that they will get properly job-qualified employees and students on graduation will be able to hit the ground running when they enter the business world. In conclusion,universities that pr

26、ovide students with practical courses geared for the job market are contributing to a harmonious society and companies that engage in preparing students for the business world are fulfilling a vital role that is missing in the academic world today. It is obviously unsatisfactory that a university de

27、gree nowadays is no longer a guarantee of a job.Universities have a responsibility to their students to provide the best and most up to date teaching.More and more universities are now recruiting their teachers from the business and professional worlds in order to attract the best students.If univer
