11、批入朝的老部队，对于在美军炮火下怎样隐蔽颇有心得，损失倒不太大。 双方损失最大的，还是步兵。根据双方战史的记录，在第四次战役东线的战斗中出现了一个奇怪的现象 双方第二线部队损失比第一线还大。这是因为中美两军在攻防作战中，都把炮兵的主要打击对象瞄准了对方向前沿增援的部队。运动中的部队没有掩体可以依托，四十二军的步兵因此蒙受了相当的损失。 美军也好不到哪儿去。刘老一次夜间去前沿阵地，走进一片开阔地后踩到一个兵，他赶紧说对不起，那人没回答。继续走，又踢到一个，又赶紧说对不起。走了半晌，说了一路的对不起，一直没人理他，老刘觉得有些不对，转眼间又踢到一个，低头一看，才发现竟是个两眼圆睁的美国兵，已经气绝
