ThislittlepoemexpressesDickinson’scontinuingloveaffairwiththespirituallevelofbeing.Shebeginsbyclaimingthattomakeaphysicallylargeitem,“aprairie,”alloneneedsistwosmallphysicalitems,“acloverandonebee.”
Thenshequalifiesthatbysaying,“Oneclover,andabee/Andrevery”;thenshequalifiesthatclaimfurther,bysayingifyoudon’thaveoneofthosephysicalcomponents,“bees,”(andbyimplication,thecloveraswell),thenyoucanstillmaketheprairiebyreveryalone.
