Children intheUK arefar behindthoseinChina,SingaporeandJapanininternationalleaguetablesofnumeracy(计算能力).  Criticsblame “progressive” teachingstylesthatfocusedonapplyingmaths toreal-lifescenes inanefforttomakethesubjectmoreinteresting. Theysaythishasledtoconfusionandstoppedchildren learningthe basics.
