I.StructureDescription

1.MainStructure

Thetankisofdouble-wallstructure.Itsinnervesselismadeofalloysteel16MnDRandpipingsaremadeofausteniticstainlesssteelanditsoutervesselismadeofcarbonsteelQ235-B.Thejacketbetweenthetwovesselsisfilledwithperliteandevacuated.Aspeciallytreatedadsorbentisplacedinthejackettoprolongthevacuumlifeofthetank.

Thetankisequippedwithnecessaryvalvesarounditsbottomforoperatingit.

2.Peculiarities

(1)Compactstructureandlessoccupiedspace;

(2)Thetankisequippedwiththeliquidfillingconnectorforfillingtheliquidtotheliquidvaporizersandtankers;

(3)Theperlite(thermalinsulationmaterial)andadsorbentinthejackethavebeenspeciallytreatedsoastoprolongthevacuumlife.Moreover,thetankisequippedwithametallicthermocouplegaugetubeformeasuringthevacuuminthejacketwhennecessary.

II.OperationandMaintenance

1.Operation

(1)Preparation

Beforebeingputintouse,thetankmustbesubjectedtoagas-tighttest,apurgingandacheckofvalvesandinstruments.

①Gas-tightTest

Thetankmustbesubjectedtoagas-tighttestbeforetheCO2liquidisfilledafterthetankisinstalledorthetemperatureoftheinnervesselreturnstothenormaltemperature.ThetestpressureshouldbetheMAWP(maximumallowableworkingpressure)ofthetankandthetestinggasshouldbeoil-freeanddryairordrynitrogen.Thetestingtimemustbefourhoursormore.

②Purging

Afterthegas-tighttestisaccepted,theinnervesselsystemofthetankmustbepurgedwithoil-freeanddryairornitrogentoremoveanymoisture.Afterpurgingwiththedryairornitrogen,thewholesystemmustbefurtherpurgedwiththeproductgasuntilthedischargedpurginggasreachestherequiredpurity.

③CheckingforValvesandInstruments

Makesurethatallthevalvesareincorrectopeningorclosingstateandthatalltheinstrumentsareincorrectindication,otherwisetheymustbeadjustedproperlybeforethecryogenicliquidisfilled.

(2)LiquidFilling

Theliquidfillingisdividedintofirstfillingandmake-upfilling.

1FirstFilling(i.e.thefillingwhentheinnervesselisatthenormaltemperature)

Thefillingstepsareasperfollows:

a)Connecttheliquidfillingpipeline.

b)Purgetheliquidfillingpipeline(thisstepmustbedonebeforeeachfilling).Beforetheliquidinletvalveisopened,theliquidtransferringpipemustbefilledwithasmallquantityofliquidviatheliquiddischargingvalveandatthesametimetheresidualliquiddrainingvalvemustbeopenedtopurgethepipelineforeliminatingthemoistairandmechanicalimpuritiesfromit.

c)FillgasCO2(pressure≥1.2MPa,temperature≥15℃)fromgas-throughvalvetotheinnervesseluntilthepressureoftheinnervessel>1.2MPa.

d)Openthelowerfillingvalvetofilltheliquidfromthebottom,

thevalvemustbeslightlyopenedinordertocoolthepipelineandinnervesselgraduallytothetemperatureofthefilledliquid.Whentheliquidlevelgaugebeginsindicatingliquidlevel,thefillingvalvemaybefurtheropenedtoincreasethespeedoffilling.

e)Whensomeliquidissprayedfromthefullnesstestvalvewhichisalreadyopened,itmeansthatthetankhasbeenfullyfilledwithliquidandthenthelowerfillingvalveshouldbeimmediatelyclosedtostopthefilling.Atthesametimetheresidualliquiddrainingvalveshouldbeopenedtodrainoffanyresidualliquidfromtheliquidfillingpipeline.Duringfilling,ifnecessary,ventingvalvecanbeopened;Pressureoftheinnervesselmustbehigherthan1.2MPanomatteratanyconditionoratanytime.

g)Disconnecttheliquidfillingpipelineuponcompletionoftheliquidfilling.

②Make-upFilling(i.e.thefillingwhentheinnervesselisatthe

temperatureoftheCO2liquid)

Thestepsforthemake-upfillingarealmostthesameasthosefortheFirstFilling.TheonlydifferenceisthatsomeCO2liquidalreadyexistsintheinnervesselandthatitisunnecessarytocooltheinnervessel.Thereforetheliquidmaybefilleddirectlyfromthelowerfillingvalveafterthepipelineispurged.

Fortherelationbetweentheliquidvolumeandtheliquidlevel,seethecurvediagramplatemountedonthetank.

(3)Storage

Duringstorage,pressurechangeshouldbeloggedcarefully.Whenpressureishigherthan2.16MPa,ventingvalvemustbeopen,butthepressuremustbehigherthan1.2MPaatanycondition.

(4)LiquidDischarge

Therearetwotypesofliquiddischarge:

1DischargeofLiquidfromoutletvalve

2DischargeofLiquidfromLiquidInlet/OutletValve

Theliquidisdischargedtoatankerorotherbiggertankviathe

liquidfillinghose.Itsoperatingstepsarebasicallythesameas

thosefortheliquidfilling,butthelowerliquidinletvalveisusedfordischargingtheliquidinsteadoffillingtheliquid.

2.Maintenance

(1)InsulationPerformanceProtection

FortheCO2liquidstoringandtransportingequipment,themostimportantrequirementisthattheyshouldhavegoodinsulationperformanceandalowboil-offofthecryogenicliquid.Vacuumisthekeypointoftheinsulationperformance.Thethermalconductivityoftheperliteatnormaltemperatureandpressureis0.045kcal/m.h.Kwhilethatatthevacuumof66.66~1.33Pais0.00225kcal/m.h.K.Sowecanseethatunderthesameotherconditionstheheattransferdifferenceis20timesdependingonthejacketvacuum(transferredheat:

Q=KF△t1-1).

Wheneverthevacuumisdeteriorated,itisimpossibletostorethecryogenicliquidinthetank,soalotofattentionsshouldbepaidtothevacuumofthetank.Theoutervesselanti-explosiondeviceandthe

evacuatingvalvearedirectlycommunicatedwiththevacuumjacket.Itisnotallowedtodismantlethemifthevacuumisnotdeterioratedoritisunnecessarytomakeuptheperliteandtore-evacuatethejacket.Theevacuatingvalveislead-sealedanditisprohibitedtoremovethevalveatrandom.

Theoutervesselisanexternalpressurevesselandsubjectedtotheatmosphericpressureandthusnostrikingorbumpingisallowedtoavoidanydamagetotheoutervessel.Itisnotallowedtoplacethetankintheareawherethetemperatureishigherthan50ºC,otherwisethevacuumwillbeaffectedandtheinsulationperformancewillbelowered.

(2)VacuumExaminationandRe-evacuation

Vacuumofthetankshallbecheckedeveryhalfayearingeneral.Whenmeasuringthevacuum,removethecoverofthemetallicthermocoupletubeandinserttheplugofthethermocouplevacuumgauge,thusthevacuumlevelinthejacketcanbemeasured.Fordetails,refertotheoperationmanualofthethermocouplevacuumgauge.

Afterseveralyears'operation,thevacuummaydroptothevaluelowerthan67Paanditisnecessarytore-evacuatethejackettoimprovetheinsulationperformance.Beforere-evacuation,theliquidinthetankmustbedischargedentirelyandthenthetankmustbewarmedandpurgedwithdryandoil-freeairorthegaseousnitrogenat80~100ºCuntilitrecoverstothenormaltemperature.Uponcompletionofconnectingtheevacuatingpiping,thepumpmustbefirstlystartedforpumpingoutthemoistureintheairofthevacuumpipeandthenthevacuumvalvemaybeopenedforre-evacuating.

Forthedetailsofevacuation,ifnecessary,theusercancontactwiththetankmanufacturer.Bothpartiescandecidethroughdiscussionthespecificprocedureofevacuation.

(3)CheckingandTroubleshooting

1NormalChecking

a)Makesurethatthevalvesareinproperopening/closingposition;

b)Makesurethatthepressuregaugesandliquidlevelgaugeiscorrectandreliable;

c)Makesurethatthereisnoleakageorblockageinthepipelineand

valves;

d)Whenthepressureinthetankgetstotheopeningpressureofthe

safetyvalvebutthevalvedoesnotwork,theopeningpressureof

thevalvemustbecalibratedimmediatelytoinsurethesafetyofthe

tank.

2PeriodicalChecking

a)Thepressuregaugesshallbecalibratedoncehalfayear;

b)Thesafetyvalveshallbecalibratedonceayear;

c)Thevacuuminthejacketshallbemeasuredeveryhalfayear;

③Trouble-shooting

Forthedetailsoftroublesthatmaypossiblyoccurduringoperationandtheircauseandremedy,seeTable1.
