TheCollegeBoard'sSATProgramconsistsoftheSATReasoningTestTM(SAT)andSATSubjectTestsTM.TheSATisthreehoursand45minuteslongandmeasuresskillsinthreeareas:
criticalreading,math,andwriting.Althoughmostquestionsaremultiplechoice,studentsarealsorequiredtowritea25-minuteessay.
TheSATSubjectTestsareone-hour,mostlymultiple-choicetestsinspecificsubjects.Thesetestsmeasureknowledgeofparticularsubjectsandtheabilitytoapplythatknowledge.Manycollegesrequireorrecommendoneormoreofthesetestsforadmissionorplacementpurposes.
EachsectionoftheSATisscoredonascaleof200—800,withtwowritingsubscoresformultiple-choiceandtheessay.ItisadministeredseventimesayearintheU.S.,PuertoRico,andU.S.Territories,andsixtimesayearoverseas.
