ofFranceandfarmersgrowgrapestomakeexcellentFrenchwine.

ThesouthofFranceliesonthecoast,anditisfamousforitswonderful

beaches.AFrenchtownbytheseaistheperfectplaceforasummer

holiday,butifyouprefertovisitFranceinwinter,youcantryskiingonthe

mountainsintheFrenchAlps.

TheLeaningTowerofPisa

TheTowerofPisaisoneofthemostbeautifulbelltowersinItaly.Itisnot

onlybeautiful,butalsostrange—itleanstooneside.Todayitisknownas

“theLeaningTowerofPisa”.

Thebuildingofthetowerbeganin1173.Ittooknearly200yearsto

complete.In1178,whenthebuildinggottothethirdfloor,itstartedto

lean.Thebuilderstriedtomakethetowerstraightagainwhentheybuiltthe

upperfloors,butfailed.

Overtheyears,thetowerhascontinuedtoleanfurther.Expertshavedone

alotofstudiesandtriedto“rescue”thetower.In1990,itwasclosedtothe

publicforsafetyreasons.Afteralotofeffort,itreopenedin2001,hopefully

itwillbesafeforatleastthenext300years.

Backpackingisapopularstyleoftravelling.Whenpeoplegobackpacking,

theyonlytakeabackpackwiththem.Backpackersusuallydonotspend

toomuchmoneyonatrip.Forexample,theywouldrathertakeatrainthan

aplanewhentheygofromcitytocity.

Oneday,JohnDancerandCharliearrivedatahotel.

“Charlieisn’tapet,”saidJohn.“He’smyeyes.I’mblindandIcan’tgo

Charlietotheirroom.

Johnwasverytired.Hesoonfellasleep.Sometimelater,Charliestarted

thebottomofthedoor.ThenhegotdownonthefloornexttoCharlieand

waited.

Soonheheardthesoundofafireengine.Afiremanarrivedandgothimout

ofthebuilding,butthefiremandidnotwanttotakeCharlie.Johnwouldnot

gowithouthis“eyes”.Finally,thefiremangotCharlieoutofthebuildingtoo

andtheywerebothsafe.

Lastmonth,Iwenttoswiminthesea.Iswamreallyfar,pasttherocksand

outtosea.

ThenIsawsomethingmovingtowardsme.Itwashugeandgrey,witha

largefin.Itwasashark!

Ibegantoswimback,butthebeachwastoofar

away.Thesharkstartedtoswimaroundme.

Iwasreallyscared.Suddenlyanothercreatureappearednexttomeinthe

water.Itwasadolphin!

Itpushedmeawayfromtheshark.Isatonitsback

asitswamtowardsthebeach.

Soonwewerenearthebeach.Thesharkdidnotfollowus.AssoonasI

steppedontothebeach,thedolphinswamaway.Iwillalwayshowthis

friendlyanimalsavedmylife.

Doglaws

Somecountrieshavelawsaboutdogs.Forexample,intheUK,alldogs

mustwearcollars(i.e.bandsputaroundtheirnecks)inpublicplaces.The

collarshouldshowthenameandaddressofthedog’sowner.However,

somedogssuchasguidedogsandrescuedogs,donothavetofollowthis

law.

TheAmazonrainforestisveryimportantbecauseitishometothousands

ofanimals,birdsandinsects.However,peoplearedestroyingtheareaby

cuttingdownmanyofthetrees.Thisiscalled“deforestation”.Manyliving

thingslosetheirhomesbecauseofdeforestation.Asaresult,thenumberofkindsofanimals,birds,insectsandtreesintheworldisdecreasing.

WemustdoourbesttoprotecttheAmazonrainforest.
