Abstract:

F.ScottFitzgerald,iswidelyconsideredastheliteraryspokesmanofthe“AmericanDream”.Hisnovelsincludemanyaspectsofhisuniqueexperiencesinthatperiodoftime.Itisnoteasytodistinguishbetweenhisnovelandreallife,whichhasbeeninvolvedinhisbodyandspiritinit.Especiallyinhismasterpiece,thegreatGatsby,whichwaspublishedin1925.Inthenovel,theherorevealsthetypicalexamplesofthosewhoaspiretopursuetheAmericandream,butattheendoftheirownsacrifice.Althoughhedreamsofmaterialwealthandlovethroughhiscourageandhardwork,allthefactorsfromtheoutsideworldandhisdreamofindelibleleadstoitsdisillusionment.Thecharacteristicsofthedevelopmentandheroesofthestory,FitzgeraldelaboratedthedisillusionmentofAmericandreamvividpicture.

摘要:

著名作家菲兹杰拉德被誉为“美国梦的代言人”,每次当我们阅读他的小说,都会使人产生一种错觉,难以区分现实与小说情节,小说的内容是他真实生活的写照,现实与小说完全融为一体。

在《了不起的盖茨比》中,主人公盖茨为美国梦不懈奋斗,甚至不惜以牺牲自己为代价,始终渴望通过自己坚定的信念获得自己想要的物质和爱情生活,但这只是一场梦,脱离了现实的一场梦境,最终是无法实现的,文章中以时间的发展为主线,对不同人物的性格进行分析,最终阐述了这一梦想破灭的多种原因。

Introduction

Fitzgeraldwasborninanon-wealthyfamily,sohewantedtomakealotofmoneyandbecomerichinenjoyingahighqualityoflife.Therhythmofhislifeisrelaxedbecausehislifeispoisonedbymadnessandself-destructivealcoholism.Aftermanyyearsofemotionalandphysicalbreakdown,hetriedtowriteaseriesofHollywoodproductionstories,exposinghisshametorepairhislife.HebecameoneofthegreatestwritersofAmericanliterature,andhewrotemanyworksinhislife,showingthereallifeofthetime.Heisaspokesmanforthejazzera.

Thegreatgatsby"isconsideredtobehismasterpiece.WasoriginallypublishedinApril10,1925,thestoryisinthenorthshoreoflongislandandsummerofthecityin1922.ThenoveltellsthestoryofGatesby,anidealistwhotriestorecapturethelostlove,buttonoavail,waseventuallyherichenvironment.ThestoryinvolvesafailureoftheAmericandream,chrysanthemumandbeautifulwoman,belongstoacorruptsociety."ThegreatGatsbyevokesacharming,wild,inabadmood,seemstonevercomeagain.Thisisaboutlostideal,fullyembodiesthefailureofayoungman(Gatsby)personaltragedy,hisdreamof"shameless"is"reality"fragment(Fitzgerald,8).

F.ScottFitzgeraldwasborninSaoPaulomiddle-classfamilyin1896.InPrincetonuniversitystudentscareerfailed,hewasinthetrainingcampwhenthesecondlieutenant,hemetabeautifulgirl,becamehiswife.HetookaZeldaSayre,andbecauseofhisliterarycareerbeganwithapopular1920.Inthe20s,whenthemoneyseemstoberichandpostwarmoralencouragerecklesspursuitofhappiness,histripinEuropeandNewYorkSerdar,presentafascinatinglife,heinhisnovelthemostpopularmagazineofthewritingstyle.Heisajazzage,thepersonalandliterarysetanexampleforageneration.Hepaceoflifeiseasy,becausehislifeisacrazydayandhisownself-destructivealcoholpoisoning.Whilehewasintheworldundertheinfluenceofthegreatdepressionofthe1930s,helosthis10yearsofvictory,intheautumn,thefavourofhimasawriter.

Fitzgeraldandzeldarelationshipissodramatic,evenifheoncesaid,"sometimesIdon'tknowzelda,Iwasreal,orarewethecharactersinthenovel"(Fitzgerald,1).

Inordertohelppayfortheirlavishlifestyle.Butwhenmisfortunehappensto30,aszeldacontinuetosufferfrommentalillness.Thisistheprosperityofhismarriageandhislife,tomakemoneytosupporther,whichgreatlyinfluencedhiswriting.

TheconceptoftheAmericandreamisdifferent,fordifferentpeople,theirunderstandingoftheAmericandreamandthepursuitoftheAmericandreamalsoeacharenotidentical.Thedefinitionoftheso-calledAmericandreamcandistinguishwithnarrowsenseandnarrowsense.WhichmeansthatallthepeopleintheUnitedStates,ifyouworkhard。

Inthisterm,theAmericandreamisthefirstinhisbook"American"1931,JamesTrausAdamswrote.Hesaid:

"theAmericandreamisadreamplace,lifeshouldbebetter,Europeansocietyfullyexplainedthatmanyofusaretired,don'tbelieveit.Everymenandwomencanachievetheirmaximumbodyinstinct,canbeachieved,andrecognitionfromothers,nomatterhowtheywerebornoroccasionallypositioning.

Americandreamnamelythroughhardworkandstruggle,canobtainabetterlife.TheAmericandreamhasafewelements:

theUnitedStatestoprovideequalopportunityforeveryone;Theirtalentandhardworkisbuildonthefoundationofsuccess,ratherthanthebackgroundextraction;Eachlifeisequalto;Everyonehashisownrighttosuccess.

Inshort,themaincontentofAmericancultureistoemphasizeindividualvalue,optimistic,fightingfordemocracyandfreedom,promotedeportationandcompetitionandtheneedofrealityandreality.EveryonehasacommontruththateveryonehasanAmericandream,thedesiretoachieveit,everyonehasanAmericandream,thisisagoodopportunitytomakemydreamcometrue.

2.2DisillusionmentofAmericanDreamReflectedintheNovel

2.2.1Gatsby’sAmericanDream

GagethantryingtorealizetheirAmericandream,lethimatthebeginningofthenewinitiativesalreadyknowtheloveofDaisyBuchanan.HemadeaDaisyaskedhimtodoeverything.Noonecandoitforareason.InordertowinDaisy,gatsbydarestoalcoholillegaltrading,toearnwealth,becauseheknewhemustprovideabetterlifeforDaisy,ifhewantstowinDaisyrich.Throughhisefforts,hereallygotalotofmoney,althoughitisfromillegalbusiness.

Gatsbyishisstrongwill,loveandrealizethegoaloflifeisthegreatsuccessofahugewealth;Hebecamethenameofthesociety,deputy.Everyoneisgladtocometohisparty,everyoneisenviousofhisproperty,andeveryonewantstobehisfriend,evenDaisyhasnoticedhim,andfellinlovewithhimagain.WhenhelosthisownlifetoprotectDaisy,gageratioisalsogreat.

ThemetamorphosisofhisAmericandream,however,Daisyandherhusbandgotoanothercity,butthegagethanbeingshot,hishugeimprovement,nofeatures.Inotherwords,inthegatesthantheendoftheAmericandream,istowinDaisy,isacompletefailure."(YangHuiqun,3)

Inaddition,whenthegageisdead,thereisnofuneralforhim,buthundredsofpeopletoeathisplace.Thisisasadcommentaryonthehumannature,whenapersondied,heislonely,absolutelyalone.Themostsadthingis,Daisy,don'tfeelsorryorsadgatesthandeath,herhusbandTomtravel.Whatgatsby.Hislifewithhisdeath,includinghiswealthandlove.Ontheanalysisofthe"Americandream"gagethanwillcometoaconclusion,whetheritisdestroyed,andthanthe"Americandream"istomakeasmuchmoney,eventhroughvariousillegalmeans,thenhecanachievehisultimategoalofeconomicstrengthtowinDaisy'slove.
