Markvolunteeredtodrivehertoworkeachday,eventhoughtheyworkedatoppositeendsofthecity.

   Atfirst,thiscomfortedSusan.Soon,however,MarkdecidedthatSusanhadtostarttakingthebusagainonherown.Butshewasstillsofragile,soangry—howwouldshereact?

   Justashepredicted,Susanwashorrifiedattheideaoftakingthebusagain.“HowamIsupposedtoknowwhereIamgoing?

Ifeellikeyou’reabandoningme,”sherespondedbitterly.

   Mark’sheartbroketohearthesewords,butheknewwhathadtobedone.HepromisedSusanthathewouldridethebuswithher,foraslongasittook,untilshegotthehangofit.

   Fortwosolidweeks,Mark,inmilitaryuniformandall,accompaniedSusantoandfromworkeachday.Hetaughthereverythingtoadapttohernewenvironment,includingbefriendingthebusdriverswhocouldwatchoutforher,andsaveheraseat.

   Finally,Susandecidedtotrythetriponherown.Mondaymorningarrived.Shesaidgood-byetoMark,andforthefirsttime,theywenttheirseparateways.

   Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday...Eachdayonherownwentperfectly,andSusanhadneverfeltbetter.Shewasdoingit!

   OnFridaymorning,asshewaspayingthefaretogetoffthebusasusual,thedriversaid,“Younglady,Isuredoenvyyou.”

Surprisedandcurious,sheaskedthedriver,“Whydoyousaythatyouenvyme?

”Shesaidexcitedlyandfirmly,“Yes,Ido!

  Thenextday,thewomanbecameabeautifulbutterflyandsaidgoodbyetoGod,flyinghurriedlytothehospital.Itturnedoutthatthemancametohisconsciousnessandwakedup,talkingwithadoctor.Shecouldnothearwhattheyweretalkingaboutbecauseshecouldnotflyintothehouse.Whatshecoulddowaswatchherbelovedthroughthewindowshelplessly.
