Amongstchildrenaged10to18,whohavegrownupwithnewtechnology,38%admittedfeelingoverwhelmedbythevolumeofmessages.Similarnumbersofadultsfeltthesameway,with34percentof25to34yearoldsagreeing.

JustineRoberts,founderofparentingwebsiteMumsnet,warned:

"Socialmediaissomethingwehavetokeepawatchonbecauseitcaneatintoyourlife."

"Weencourageourmemberstoswitchoffbecauseotherwiseyoucan'tgiveyourkidsandhusbandthetimetheyneed."Sheadded:

"WebsiteslikeFacebookandTwittercanbeenjoyableandaddictivebut,likewitheverything,itneedstobetakeninmoderation."

Thesurveyalsodiscoveredthat43percentofchildrenand33percentofadultsaretakingstepstoreducetheirrelianceonmessaging,textandnetworking.Butonlyoneinfivesaidtheywouldbereducingthenumberoftextmessagestheyaresendingandevenlesssaidtheywillbewritingfeweremails.Nearly43percentsaidtheyhavehadaculloftheirFacebook"friends"andfollowersonTwitterinanattempttocutdownontheamountoftimespentonthewebsites.
