Abstract:

Publiceducationaswellastourismandleisurearethetwoimportantfunctionsofnationalwetlandpark,andtouristbehaviorsactastheguidingfactorinthenationalwetlandparkconstructionandmanagement.AsthefirstnationalwetlandparkinChina,XixiNationalWetlandPark,locatedinHangzhouCity,ZhejiangProvince,willgiveconstructiveinstructionstotheconstructionandmanagementofotherwetlandparksandecotourismresorts.ThispaperanalyzedthetouristbehaviorsinXixiNationalWetlandPark.Bytheobservation,in-depthinterviewandquestionnaire,theresultsshowthattouristsinwetlandparksaredifferentfromthoseintheothercommondestinations,andtheyarealsodifferentfromthosestricteco-tourists.Infact,thetouristsinwetlandparkhaveuniquecharacteristics,suchastheintenseperceptiontothefunctionsofwetlandecosystemandtheenvironmentimpactbehaviors.Thosetouristsarepreferredtonaturallandscapesintheirmotivationsandexpectations.WetlandlandscapesarethemainimagetothosetouristsintheXixiNationalWetlandPark.Touristexpectation,experienceandsatisfactionareallcriticalfactorsforthesuccessoftheplanningandmanagementinnationalwetlandparks.Basedontheresults,somemeasuresforthesustainabledevelopmentofwetlandparks,includingtooptimizewetlandthemelandscapeandtourismproducts,toimprovetouristfacilitiesandservices,toenhancequalityofvisitorexperiences,andtoimplementtotalqualitymanagementbasedontouristcharacteristics,aregiventonationalwetlandparkecotourism.

1Introduction

Asauniqueecosystem,wetlandhasenvironmental,economicandsocialservicefunctions.Intheecosystemservicefunctionofwetland,tourismandscientificeducationareveryimportant,andtheycanbeeasilyperceivedbythepublic,too.Wetlandecotourismandeducationtourismareboththeneweffectivewetlandsresourcesexploitation.XixiNationalWetlandParkinHangzhouCity,ZhejiangProvince,wasformallyestablishedasthefirstnationalwetlandparkonFebruary2,2005byStateForestryAdministrationofChina,andofficiallyopenedtothepubliconMay1inthesameyear.Andnowthereareabout20nationalwetlandparksinChina.Theestablishmentofnationalwetlandparkisanewattemptinthewetlandprotectionandutilization,andhowtodevelopecotourismbecomesakeyissueforthenationalwetlandparkManyresearchershaveinterestineco-tourists,andthebehavioralapproachhasbeentheoptimalmethodtoresearchecotourismandnaturedestinationKerstetteretal.,2004.TouristbehavioranalysisisthemostimportantcontenttocarryoutsustainabletourismObuaandHarding,1996.Inecotourismresorts,suchasnationalpark,touristsprefertoobservewildanimalsandhikeGlenandPhilip,1998.TheyexpectthattheycanhavechancestowatchanimalscloselyDerrinetal.,1997.Oneoftheprimarychallengesfacingecotourismmanagementistoestablishaprofitableandecologicallysustainableindustry,whilesimultaneouslyachievingasatisfyingexperienceforvisitorandraisingstandardsoflivinginthehostcommunityLimandMcaleer,2005.ThemanagersshouldenhancetouristexperiencesaboutnatureGlenandPhilip,1998.TheexplanationservicesareimportantandcandecreasetourismnegativeenvironmentimpactHwangetal.,2005.ByenvironmenteducationtouristscanchangetheirbehaviorsandtakepartindirectlymaintainingandprotectingnatureLimandMcAleer,2005.Orams1995arguedthatecotourismmanagementstrategiesshouldattempttomoveecotourismexperiencesbeyondmoreenjoymenttoamoreactiverolewhichincorporatedlearning,attitudeandbehavioralchange.Thecontemporaryparkmanagementfacesanumberofchallengesincludingminimizationoftheimpactofincreasingparkvisitationonresources,developmentofeffectivepublicrelationsandeducationalprogramsinparks,implementationofviableparkmarketingandplanningprogramsandeffectiveparkvisitorriskmanagement,sounderstandingthenatureofparkvisitorsisimportantfordealingwiththosedifficultiesaboveGalloway,2002.Therejuvenationandutilizationofwetlandarealwaysthetopicstoresearchers,whilefewliteraturesareaboutwetlandtourism.Infact,tourismisanimportantfunctionofwetland,andtherecreationaluseofwetlandsisnotconflictwiththeirconservationobjectives,howeverdecisionsconcerningtheprotectionofwetlandsshouldprecederecreationalplanningBacon,1987.
