tomergeseamlesslynotonlyintothebuildingssurroundingnature,butalsointothelivesof
thosewholivewithinitssurroundingcommunity.CarefullydevelopedincolorationwithTDS
(TsushimaDesignStudio),andourclientZhejiangVanke,MeiLiZhouChurchwasnotonly
createdforreligiousservices,butasbothaspiritualandcommunityretreatforallofthe
surroundingcommunityregardlessofreligiousbeliefs.Surroundedbynature,theMeiLiZhou
Churchsitsnotasanobjecttobeviewedfromafar,butratherattemptstoblendinnaturallytoits
existingsurroundings. Whiledesigningthechurch,notonlywastheexperienceandfunctionality
oftheuserofgreatimportance,butalsoworkingwithenvironmentallylowimpactmaterialsaswell
asminimizingdamagetotheexistingnaturewerebothveryimportanttotheprojectssuccess.As
aresultofourextensivestudiesinthearchitectureincollaborationwithPLATDesignin
landscape,thechurchesboundaryblurswiththesurroundinglandscape,allowingforaseamless
flowbetweenbuildingandnature.
TheMeiLiZhouChurchwasdesignedwithtwooverwhelmingthemes.Firstthecreationofa
seamlessflowofspacebetweentheinteriorspacesandnature,whilethesecondlooksatthe
ideaoftimelessnessandpurity.
Thechurchcomplexconsistsofthreeseparate,yetconnectedbuildings(TheMeiLiZhou
Chapel,ThesmallerGardenChapel,aswelltheCourtyardOffices)andonebelltower.Thetwo
smallerbuildingsweconsiderthepublicgallery.Althougheachbuildingutilizesdifferentmaterials
anddesignfeatures,theconceptofflowingspacesconnectsthemtogether.TheMeiLiZhou
Chapelservesasthegatewaytotheprojectinbotharchitectureandnature.Itssimpleplan,vast
interiorspaceandlargeopenfacadesallowfortheseamlessflowofnatureandnaturallighting
intothebuilding.Alongwiththetwolargeopeningsatthefrontandrearofthechapel,aseriesof
largeverticalskylightsarelocatedoverthepulpitcreatingaveryephemeralfeelingwithinthe
church.
TheGardenChapelandCourtyardOfficesalsoattempttobringnaturein,butonamuchmore
delicatelevel.WhiletheMeiLiZhouChapelutilizesitsheightandlargeviewstobringnaturein,
thetwosmallerbuildingsuseverycarefullyplacedfloorlevelwindowstoallowthespacestoflow
seamlessly.Althoughboththemainchapelandthesmallerbuildingsevolvedfromthesame
concept,theresultingdesignandcreatedviewsarequiteunique.Notonlythebuildingsallowfor
theseamlessflowofspacethroughouttheproject.Situatedinthecenterofallthreebuildings
andhousingtheBellTowerisalargeoutdoorpublicCourtyard.Thecourtyardactsasadevice,
whichcontinuesthrougheachofthethreebuildings,connectingthemtoeachotheraswellas
nature.Inthetwogallerybuildings,eachroomiscarefullyconnectedtothiscourtyardcreatinga
seriesofinterconnectedspaces.Eachspaceisuniqueandoffersdifferentviewsofthe
surroundinglandscape.Thissequenceofflowingspaceguidespeopleonapath,encouraging
themtoexplorethebuildingsandalloftheexperiencestheyhavetooffer.
Ontheotherhandweexaminedtimelessnessandpurityandwhatthatmeansforthearchitecture
anditsinhabitants.Howcanafixedobject,withinanever-changingenvironmentblend
seamlesslyfromthechangingcolorsoftheseasons,tothechangingofpeople’sbeliefsand
cultures?
Forusthistimelessnesswasfoundinthematerialsanddetails.Thistimelessnesscan
befoundinthemainchapel,anditswoodstructure.Strippedofalldecorativeelements,this
buildingstandspureanddignified.Inatimewhenconcreteandwoodstructuresarenormin
Chineseconstruction,ourstructurelookstoamoretraditionalJapanesesystem.Designedand
constructedinJapan,theengineeredwoodroofallowsforabeautifullydetailedcolumn-less
spaceof11Mx35M.Besidesthewoodstructure,thewallsarecladinunfinishedwood,in
contrasttothewhitetileflooring.Timelessnessiscreatedinthecolorsofthewood,light,and
opennessoftheinteriorspaces,whichareconstantlychanginginconjunctionwiththechanging
ofnaturesurroundingthebuilding.WhiletheMainchapelattemptstoblendinmorewiththe
surroundingforest,thetwogallerybuildingstakeonamoremonolithicmateriality,blendingin
moretothesurroundinglandscape.Withamoreminimalapproachtodetailing,thesebuildings
usematerialssuchaspouredconcreteontheexterior,andalighterwoodfinishintheinteriorto
playwiththecontrastbetweenlightandheavy.Thesurroundinglandscapealsoutilizeslocal
stones,treatedinthesameuntreatedwayallowingforeachstonesnatureandcharactertobe
elegantlyexpressed.

美丽洲教堂坐落在树木繁茂的杭州,设计不仅仅融入环境,也很好的为社区生活服务。
由TDS倾力
设计,业主是浙江万科。
这个教堂在为宗教服务的同时,也为周边社区服务。
教堂力求融入自然的
环境当中,不仅重视功能和用户体验,还选择了低碳材料,最大限度的降低了对环境的影响。
同时
建筑师做了广泛的研究,让景观与建筑边界模糊,使得建筑与景观无缝接入。
教会有两个重点,一个是室内空间与自然之间宛然一体,第二个是表达永恒和纯净。
教会由三个单体建筑(美丽洲教堂,小花园教堂,办公处)和一个钟楼组成。
其中两栋建筑较小,
每栋材料各异但是整体统一。
美丽洲教堂是与自然的门户无缝衔接的大型开放式建筑。
,简单的平
面,广阔的内部空间,光线和自然流动其中。
大型垂直天窗坐落在两端上方。
与美丽洲教堂的高大相比,小花园教堂和办公区建筑较小,落地窗鼓励与自然更好联系。
虽然他们
看起来是大教堂的演变产物,其实各有千秋。
庭院联系整个建筑群,每一处的景观都独一无二。
在
景观序列体验上,给人们更多的感受。
同时我们在探讨永恒和纯洁的意义之下,让建筑与结构与四季风貌相协调。
给与人心灵的震撼。
建
筑师同样注重细节,木结构去掉了所有的装饰要素,非常简洁和庄严,同中国建筑相比,这个建筑
显得相当日系。
屋顶空间是一个精致的序列化11Mx35M空间。
木结构之外,墙壁也是为未装饰木
材,地板是白色的瓷砖。
木材,光,开放的室内空间,以及四季变化的景观,总共谱写永恒之曲。
教堂完美的融入了周边森林,同时外观混凝土与内部木材的对比体现了轻与重的反差。
未做雕琢
的景观石材将每块石材本身的特性优雅的表达了出来。
