PARIS—PregnantmothersinDenmarkwhoregularlyusedmobilephonesweremorelikelytohavechildrenwithbehaviouralproblems,accordingtoastudyreleasedTuesday.

LeeksKheifetsoftheUniversityofCaliforniaatLosAngelesandcolleaguesexaminedthehealthrecordsof28,000seven-year-oldsandtheirmothersenrolledintheDanishNationalBirthCohort.Thesurvey,whichincludednearly100,000womenbetween1996and2002,wasdesignedtotrackthelong-termhealthofthechildren.Motherssupplieddetailedinformationabouttheirlifestyles,dietandhabitsduringandafterpregnancy,includingcellphoneuse.Whentheirkidsreachedtheageofseven,momswereagainquizzedontheirownandtheirchildren’shealthandbehaviour.

Theresearchersfoundthatkidswhohadbeenexposedtomobilephonesbothbeforeandafterbirthwere50percentmorelikelytohavebehaviouralproblems.Kidsexposedtocellphonesonlywhileinthewomb(子宫)were40percentmorelikelytoshowabnormalbehaviour,withthepercentagedroppingtoafifthforchildrenwhosefirstaccesstothedevicesoccurredaftertheywereborn.

Theresultsmirroranearlierstudybytheresearchersof13,000othermothersandtheirkidsenrolledinthesamenationalsurvey.Inbothgroups,aboutthreepercentofthechildrenwerefoundtoexhibitabnormalbehavior,withanotherthreepercentborderline(介于两者之间/不明确的).
