Unit8 ItmustbelongtoCarla.
1.ThehairbandmustbelongtoLinda.
这个发带一定是琳达的。
belongto意为“属于;为……所拥有”。
其中to是介词,后接名词或人称代词的宾格形式,不能接名词性物主代词或名词所有格。
belongto常与名词性物主代词或名词所有格进行句型转换。
如:
①Thisclassroombelongstous.
这间教室属于我们。
②TheseclothesmustbelongtoTom.
=TheseclothesmustbeTom's.
这些衣服一定是汤姆的。
【注意】belongto没有被动语态,也不能用于进行时态。
2.therestof+名词
(1)此短语意为“其余的;剩余部分的”,有时候直接用therest。
如:
Whilewecleantheclassroom,whatwilltherestofyoudo?
我们打扫教室时,你们其余的人做什么呢?
(2)therest短语作主语时,其谓语的单复数要根据therest所指的内容而定。
如:
①Somestudentsareontheplayground,andtherestarestayingintheclassroom.(指的是therestofthestudents,因此谓语用复数)
有些学生在操场上,而其余的待在教室里。
②Idrankonlyalittleofthemilk.Therestwasdrunkbyhim.(指的是therestofthemilk,因此谓语用单数)
我只喝了一点点牛奶,其余的都被他喝掉了。
3.havetoomuchfuncreatingfear
开心地制造恐惧
(1)toomuch意为“太多”,可以作形容词,用来修饰不可数名词;也可作名词,用作宾语,代替不可数名词。
如:
①ThereweresomanypeopleandtoomuchnoiseinthehallthatIcouldnothearyou.
大厅里人太多、太喧哗,我听不见你说的。
②I'msorryIhavetogo,becauseIhavetoomuchhouseworktodo.
真抱歉,我得走了,因为有太多家务活要做。
③Myfatherdranktoomuchlastnight.
我父亲昨夜(酒)喝得太多了。
(2)toomuch还可以作副词用,放在某些动词的后面。
如:
Hefelttiredandhungryashehadworkedtoomuch.
由于干活太多,他感到又累又饿。
4.Thelargestoneswereputtogetherinacertainway.
这些巨大的石头以某种方式被摆放在一起。
certain意为“某一;某个;某些”,后面跟名词;inacertainway意为“以某种方式”。
如:
Thedoctorisonlyatthishospitaloncertaindays.
那位医生只在某些日子才在这所医院里。
1.WheneverItrytoreadthisbook,Ifeelsleepy.
无论何时我努力读这本书,我都感到瞌睡。
(1)whenever意为“无论何时”,是一个连接副词。
如:
WheneverImeethim,hesayshellotomewithasmile.
无论什么时候我遇到他,他都微笑着和我打招呼。
(2)类似的连接副词还有:
wherever无论在哪里,however无论什么方式。
如:
①Whereverhismothergoes,hegoeswithher.
不管他妈妈走到哪里,他总是和她一起去。
②Howeverhotitis,hewillnottakeoffhiscoat.
无论多热,他也不会脱掉外衣。
(3)另外还有连接代词whatever,意为“无论什么”;whoever,意为“无论谁”等。
如:
①Whateveryoudo,don'tmissthisexhibition.
无论如何你都别错过这次展览。
②Whateveryoudo,youshouldalwaysdocarefully.
不管做什么,你都应该认真。
③Inmyownhouse,IcandowhateverIwanttodo.
在自己家中,我可以随心所欲。
④Whoeveristhelasttoleaveshouldclosethewindows.
不管谁最后一个离开都应该关上窗户。
⑤Mygrandfathertoldhisstorytowhoeverwantedtolisten.
谁爱听,爷爷就把他的故事讲给谁听。
2.notonly...butalso...不仅……而且……
notonly...butalso...是英语中常见的一对连词,意为“不仅……而且……”。
(1)通常连接两个相同的成分,如连接两个主语、连接两个状语等。
其中also有时可以省略。
如:
①NotonlyMr.Wangbutalsohissonjoinedthebasketballteamtwoyearsago.
不仅王先生而且他的儿子在两年前都加入了篮球队。
(连接两个主语)
②Inotonlyplaytennisbutalsopracticeshooting.
我不仅打网球,还练习射击。
(连接两个谓语动词)
③Heplaysnotonlythepianobutalsotheviolin.
他不仅弹钢琴,也拉小提琴。
(连接两个宾语)
④TheyspeakEnglishnotonlyinclassbutalsoathome.
他们不仅在课堂上说英语,在家里也说。
(连接两个地点状语)
(2)notonly位于句首时,该句的主语和谓语要部分倒装。
如:
①Notonlydoesthesungiveuslightbutalsoheat.
太阳不仅给了我们阳光,也给了我们热量。
②NotonlydoeshespeakEnglishcorrectly,buthealsospeaksitfast.
他不仅英语说得正确,还说得快。
③Notonlyisthisstudentclever,butheisalsohardworking.
这个学生不仅聪明,也很勤奋。
(3)notonly...butalso...连接两个名词作主语时,谓语动词要根据butalso后的名词决定单复数(即就近原则)。
如:
Notonlythestudentsbutalsotheteacherwasagainsttheplan.
不仅学生们,还有那位老师也反对这个计划。
情态动词表推测的用法
1.情态动词must,may,might,could,should,can't表推测的含义与用法
情态动词must,may,might,could,should,can't后面都接动词原形,都可以表示对现在情况的揣测和推断,但它们含义有所不同。
其可能性情况如下:
must一定;肯定(100%的可能性)(probablytrue)
may,might,could,should有可能;也许(20%-80%的可能性)(possiblytrue)
can't不可能;不会(可能性几乎为零)
(1)must用于肯定句,表示较有把握的推测。
意为“准是;一定”。
后面接动词原形,表示对现在的推测。
如:
①Thedictionarymustbehis.Ithashisnameonit.
这本字典一定是他的,上面有他的名字。
②Hehasworkedfor12hours.Hemustbeverytired.
他已经工作12个小时了,一定很累了。
(2)should用于肯定句中,语气次之,意为“很可能;应该”,指按常理推测。
如:
Theyleftyesterday.Theyshouldbeathomebynow.
他们昨天就离开了,现在该到家了。
(3)may用在肯定句中,表示对现在把握不大的推测。
could和might也可以表示推测意义,语气较缓和、婉转。
如:
①TheCDmight/could/maybelongtoTonybecausehelikeslisteningtopopmusic.
这张唱片可能属于托尼,因为他喜欢听流行音乐。
②TheFrenchbookcouldbelongtoMary.SheisstudyingFrenchnow.
这本法语书可能属于玛丽,她现在在学法语。
(4)can't用在否定句中,表示否定的推测。
意为“没有可能;不可能”,语气肯定。
如:
①ThatTshirtcan'tbemine.That'smuchtoobigforme.
那件T恤衫不可能是我的,对我来说太大了。
②Thehairbandcan'tbeBob's.Afterall,heisaboy.
这个发带不可能是鲍勃的。
毕竟,他是一个男孩。
