PassageOne

BabeRuthwasoneofthegreatestbaseballplayersintheworld.GeorgeHermanRuth(Babewasanickname)wasbornonFebruary6,1895.Hewasadifficultchildinschooluntiloneofhisteachersdiscoveredhistalentforbaseball.TheteacherarrangedatryoutwiththeBaltimoreOrioles.Heplayedforthemuntil1914.ThentheOriolessoldRuthtotheBostonRedSox.

Ruthstartedasapitcher.Hewasproudofhispitchingrecordduringthe1916WorldSerieschampionshipfortheBostonRedSox;hepitchedover29scorelessinnings,morethanthreecompletescorelessgames.

In1920,theNewYorkYankeesboughtRuth.Withthisteam,hebecameoneofthemostoutstandingbatters.In1927,hehit60morerunsinoneseason,arecordthatnoonematchedforalmostfiftyyears.

BecauseofRuth’stremendouspopularity,theteambuiltanewYankeeStadiumthatbaseballfanscalledthe“HousethatRuthBuilt”.

In1936,attheendofhisplayingcareer,hewasoneofthefirstfiveplayerselectedtotheBaseballHallofFame.Babediedin1948andthewholeworldmournedhisdeath.
