in1858.Samuel'spenname,MarkTwain,comesfromhisdaysasariverpilot.Itisarivertermwhichmeans,12feetwhenthedepthofwaterforaboatisbeingmeasured.“MarkTwain”meansthatissafetonavigate(航行).

In1861,SamuelbeganworkingasanewspaperreporterforseveralnewspapersallovertheUnitedStates.In1870,hemarriedOliviaLangdon.
