Thenextmorning,Icarriedthekitchenrubbishoutside.MyheartsankasIliftedthelidofthetrashcanandsawSusan’scarpetlyingthere.Hesitatingonlyforamoment,Itookitoutandbroughtitintothehouse.

“Susaninvitedmetocomeovertoherhousetomorrow,”Hollyannouncedasshearrivedhomefromschoolaweeklater.Althoughhervoicecarriedaso-whatattitude,Isensedshewaspleasedbytheinvitation.InspiteofthenumberoftimesSusanhadvisitedus,ourinvitationswereneverreturnedanditwouldbethefirsttimeforHollytogo.

ThenextdayIdroveHollytothedestination.Atallwomanstoodinthedoorwaytogreetus.Thehousewasshabbybutneatlydecoratedwithusedfurniture.FromthechatwiththewomanweknewSusanhadlongbeenseparatedfromherparentsandthatshewasSusan’sstepmother.AwarmlightshoneinhereyesassherevealedtomeherfondnessforSusan.Icametorespectthisgenerous-heartedwomanwhohadopenedherhometoayounggirlandattemptedtomakeadifferenceinherlife.注意:
