Thepigwasthelastanimaltobefullytamed(驯养)bythefarmer.Unlikethecowandthesheep,itisnotagrass-eater.Itsancienthomewastheforest,whereitsearchedfordifferent
kindsoffood,suchasnuts,roots,anddeadanimals.Formanycenturiesthefarmerallowedittocontinuethere,leavinghispigstolookafterthemselvesmostofthetime.Asthewoodlandsbegantobecomesmaller,thepigslowlybegantobekeptonthefarmitself.Butitdidnotfinallycomeintoashed,whereitwasfedonwastefoodfromthefarmandthehouse,untiltheeighteenthcentury.
