一、冠词
冠词是虚词,不能单独使用,位于名词前,帮助指明名词的含义。
冠词虽小,却不容忽略。
要掌握冠词,除了解其基本用法、熟记常见的固定搭配外,还要注意其特殊用法。
(一)不定冠词a和an的用法
●基本用法
1、用在单数可数名词前,表示某一类人或事物中的个体。
2、用于表示首次提到某人或某物,但没有具体说明是谁或是什么。
3、用来表示“一”的概念,但不如one的数字概念强。
●特殊用法
1、用在人名或姓氏前,表示说话者对此人不认识,相当于acertain。
如:
---Hello,couldIspeaktoMr.Smith?
---Sorry,wrongnumber.Thereisn’taMr.Smiththere.
2、用于表数量、时间的名词前,表示“每一(单位)的……”,相当于per。
如:
Iearn10dollarsanhourasasupermarketcashieronSaturdays.
3、月份、星期及morning,afternoon,evening,night等名词前有修饰语时,可以用a或an进行具体的限制。
如:
onaterriblenight在一个可怕的夜晚
4、在序数词前表示“又一,再一”。
如:
Whynottryasecondtime?
5、用在某些物质名词或抽象名词前,表示一阵/场/种/次等;也可表示引起某种情绪的事,即抽象名词具体化。
如:
Therewasaheavysnowyesterday.
6、用在带有修饰词的表示三餐的名词前,表示“一顿……的饭”。
如:
Markoftenhasabigsupper.
7、与表示职业、身份等的名词连用,一般不翻译。
如:
Areyouadoctororanurse?
8、用在sucha(n)…,quitea(n)…,manya(n)…,rathera(n)…结构中及“so+形容词+a(n)+单数可数名词”结构中。
如:
suchatalltree;manyaman许多人
9、用于what引导的感叹句中。
如:
Whatadifficultproblem!
10、用于某些固定搭配中。
如:
aknowledgeof,haveagiftfor,givesb.aride,inahurry,onceinawhile,dosb.afavor,afew,abit,haveacold,havearest,haveawalk
(二)定冠词的用法
●基本用法
1、特指上文已提到过的人或物。
2、指谈话双方都熟悉的人或物。
3、用来特指某(些)人或某(些)事物。
所特指的名词常被短语或定义从句修饰。
4、用于单数可数名词之前,表示该类事物,相当于a。
5、用在世界上独一无二的事物前。
●特殊用法
1、用在序数词或形容词的最高级前及由only修饰的名词前;比较级前若表特指也要用定冠词。
如:
Thecakesaredelicious.He’dliketohaveathirdonebecausethesecondoneisrathertoosmall.
Iwanttogivethecaketotheyoungerofthetwochildren.
2、用在由普通名词构成的专有名词前,如江河、山脉、湖泊、群岛、海峡及某些建筑物名称前。
如:
theGreatWall;theOlympicGames;theYellowRiver
3、用在姓氏复数前,表示“某某一家人”或“某某夫妇”。
注意:
“the+姓氏复数”作主语时,谓语动词用复数。
如:
TheGreensarewatchingTVinthesittingroom.
4、the后加某些形容词,表示一类人或事物。
如:
theold老人;therich富人
5、用在表示阶级、党派、方位、方向、乐器的名词前。
如:
inthesouth;playthepiano;jointheParty
6、用于一些固定结构和搭配中。
如:
“the+形容词比较级”结构,表示“越……越……”;ontheright;bytheway;attheageof
7、在“动词+人+介词+the+人体部位”结构中要用the,而不用物主代词。
如:
hitsb.onthehead
(三)零冠词的情况
在英语中,有些情况下名词前不用冠词,这种情况通常称为零冠词。
零冠词的一些常见情况如下:
1、不含普通名词的专有名词前不用冠词;当抽象名词或物质名词表示一般概念、不确定的数量或泛指时。
如:
China;Australia;Whenyoufinishreadingthebook,youwillhaveabetterunderstandingoflife.
2、名词前有指示代词、物主代词、不定代词或名词所有格修饰时。
如:
onherdesk;someyoungpioneers
3、复数名词表示一类人或事物时。
如:
Itisoftensaidthatteachershaveaveryeasylife.
4、在人名、称呼语、头衔、职务等名词前,不加冠词。
如:
UncleWang;ProfessorChen
5、在表季节、月份、星期、假日及一日三餐、学科、球类、棋牌等的名词前不用冠词。
如:
insummer;inFebruary;onWednesday;MayDay;havelunch;teachmaths;playfootball/chess
6、在表示交通方式的介词短语中不用冠词。
如:
bybike;onfoot
7、man作“人类”讲时,同human、mankind一样不用冠词。
8、两个相同或对等的名词并用时,不用冠词。
如:
facetoface;fatherandson;dayandnight
9、连系动词turn(变成)后接表示职业的单数可数名词作表语时,不用冠词。
如:
Hassheturnedsigner?
10、在一些固定搭配中不用冠词。
如:
ontime;insurprise;underpressure;inpublic
(四)固定搭配中有无定冠词的区别
1、infrontof在……前面(外部)→inthefrontof在……的前面(内部)
2、inchargeof负责→inthechargeof由……负责
3、gotochurch去做礼拜→gotothechurch去教堂
4、outofquestion没问题→outofthequestion不可能
注意:
在一些短语中,有无冠词意义并无差别。
如:
at(the)least至少;at(the)most至多。
这些需要大家学习中不断积累。
二、介词
介词用于表示它后面的名词或代词与其他句子成分之间的关系。
(一)几组易混淆介词的辨析
1、at,in,on表时间的区别:
at可用于表示时间点、时刻或节日(如:
at5:
30);in表示在某个较长的时间内(如:
inthemorning),还可表示一段时间之后(如:
infiveminutes);on表示具体的日子或特定的时间(如:
onNationalDay)
2、across和through:
across表示从某物表面通过,与“on”有关;through表示从某物内部通过,与“in”有关。
3、with,in,by用于表示行为的工具、手段或方式时的区别:
with用于表有形的工具或身体的某些器官等词的前面,其后的名词多被冠词或物主代词修饰(如:
withahammer);by用于表示这种意义时后面常直接接名词(如:
byship);in常用于使用语言、材料、单位、声音等(如:
inEnglish,inink,inalowvoice)。
4、for和to引出后置的间接宾语:
buy/cook/fetch/get/make/order…+forsb.;bring/give/lend/offer/pass/send/show/tell/write…+tosb.
5、as和like表示“像……”:
as是连词,后面接句子;like常用作介词,后面一般接名词或代词。
注意:
当前面有such,as,thesame时,后面用as。
(二)介词与某些词类的搭配
1、介词与名词的搭配
与to搭配的名词:
key,answer,visit,apology,introduction,attitude,devotion
与in搭配的名词:
interest,expert
其他:
prizefor,respectfor,strugglewith,excusefor
2、介词与形容词的搭配
与from搭配的形容词:
far,different,free,safe,absent,tired
与of搭配的形容词:
afraid,sure,full,fond,proud,worthy
与with搭配的形容词:
angry,strict,careful,busy,popular,patient
与in搭配的形容词:
weak,rich,interested,successful,slow
与to搭配的形容词:
polite,rude,close,similar
与about搭配的形容词:
worried,curious,positive
【考例1】冠词

本题考查冠词的基本用法。
abook表示泛指;ABC后面有oilpainting限定,特指油画的基础知识,所有用定冠词。
句意:
我需要的是一本包含油画基本知识的书。

本题考查冠词的固定搭配。
