Anotherriceresearcher,JanLeachatColoradoStateUniversity,saysscientistscanfindvaluablequalitieshiddeninthericegenome.Agenomecontainsallofthegeneticinformationaboutanorganism."Manyofthetraitsarepresent,buttheyarenotturnedonuntilyougetthemintotherightgeneticbackground,orsometimesintherightenvironment."ResearchersontheGreenSuperRiceprojectcontinuetocombinedesirabletraitsintonewvarietiestohelpfarmersproducemorewithless.
