Thewasteaccumulatedissoldtolocalrecyclingcompanies，who，thankstoJose’sefforts，payahigher-than-marketrateforeverythingbroughtinbythebankmembers．Themoneyreceivedisplacedinthepersonalaccountwheretheycollectuntilthesavingsgoalisreached．Theaccountholdercanthenwithdrawthemoney，orchoosetoleaveitandcontinuetogrowforabiggertarget．“Atthebeginning，myteachersthoughtIwascrazyorthatachildcouldnotundertakethistypeofproject，”Joserecalls．“Theydidnotunderstandthatwearenotthefutureofthecountrybutitspresent．Luckily，Ihadthesupportoftheschoolheadmasterandanassistantinmyclass．”

Theboy’seffortspaidoff，andby2013，thebankhadover200members，whobroughtinonetonofrecyclablewaste．Today，theeco-bank，whichnowhasthesupportofseverallocalinstitutions，boaststeneducationalcenters．Theyaredesignedtoteachtheover3，000students，aged10to18，tobecomefinanciallyindependent，usetheirmoneywisely，andhelptheenvironment．
