Theroarofthewavesbreaksontherocks.Impressivemelodiessurroundingandlingeringonthisislandmakefamousforitspiano-ladenpast.AsaplaceofresidenceforWesternersduringXiamen'scolonialpast,GulangyuisfamousforitsarchitectureandforbeinghometoChina'slargestpianomuseum.Itisknownasthepianoislandbecausepeopleherelovethepiano.Asearlyas1913,studentsinschoolsrunbyforeignersstartedlearningthepiano.Theenthusiasmformusiclaterspreadtomoreordinarypeopleontheisland.Manypianofamilieshavesincethencomeintobeingandproducedaccomplishedmusicians.Andthenumberofthepianospossessedisintheleadingplaceinthenation,thoughthereisonlyapopulationof20,000people.

　　Tong'anConfucianTemple

　　ThetempleislocatedbyastreamintheeasternsuburbofTong'an.ItwasfirstsetupintheFiveDynasties.DachengHall,theexistentconstruction,wasrebuiltduringEmperorQianlong'sreignofQingDynasty.

　　Today,theConfucianTemplehasbeenturnedintoTong'anMusueminwhichhistoricalrecordsandculturalrelicsofTong'andatedbacktoasearlyastheWesternHanDynastywereexhibited.Onthenorthsideofthetemple,thereisagroundsettinginorderover200piecesofstonecarvingsandstelescollectedfromdifferentareasofTong'an.Withdifferentbearingsandsotruetolife,thesesculpturesarecalled"terracottawarriorsandhorsesofTong'an".

　　TingxiReservoir

　　Rebuiltin1956atthefootofTingxiMountainofTong'an,TingxiReservoirhasawatercapacityof48millionsquaremetres.Dependingonthemountainterrain,thevastwaterwindsitswaytothefar.Thelakeissoclearandwaterandmountainseemtoblendintoeachother.Boatingonthegreenwaterandamongthegreenmountainsisreallycarefreeandjoyous.

　　Twelve-DragonPool

　　TurtleGardenwasconstructedin1950byMr.TanKah-Keeontheformersiteof"TurtleHeadPalace".InthecentreofthegardenistheJimeiLiberationMonumentwithaninscriptionbyMaoZedongonthefrontandatabletrecordwrittenbyMr.TanKah-Keeontheback.Thestonefoundationofthemonumentconsistsoftwostages.Thelowerstagehaseightsteps,signifyingtheeight-yearAnti-JapaneseWar;theupperstageiscomposedofthreesteps,symbolizingthethreeyearLiberationWar.Theyaretellingthelatergenerationsthatvictorieswerehard-wonandthereforeshouldbecherished.Thefoundationofthemonumentissurroundedbygrayjadecarvingsandreliefsculpturespolishedwithgreatcare,embodyingaconcentratedreflectionofexquisiteworkmanshipandauniquestyleofsouthFujianstonecarvingart.

　　Walledbywhitestonesandroofedwithgreentiles,theReturnees'Hallcoveringanareaof4,000squaremetresisatypicalsampleofsouthfujianconstructions.AstheformerresidenceofMr.TanKah-kee,thebuildingismarkedbyMr.Tan'sbronzestandingstatueinfront.
