Reallifeismorecomplicated,ofcourse,butthissimplemodelillustratesanimportanttruth.Inthemarriagemarket,numbersmatter.AndamongAfrican-Americans,thedifferenceismuchworsethaninMrHarford’simaginaryexample.Betweentheagesof20and29,oneblackmaninnineisbehindbars.Forblackwomenofthesameage,thefigureisaboutonein150.Forobviousreasons,convictsareexcludedfromthedatingpool.
