Nineteenthandearlytwentiethcenturies

Latetwentiethandearlytwenty-firstcenturies

Intheearly1990sintheUSA,beganasaresponsetoperceivedfailuresofthesecondwaveandtothebacklashagainstinitiativesandmovementscreatedbythesecondwave.Third-wavefeminismseekstochallengeoravoidwhatitdeemsthesecondwave'sdefinitionsof,which,theyargue,over-emphasizetheexperiencesofuppermiddle-classwhitewomen.Third-wavefeministsoftenfocuson"micro-politics"andchallengethesecondwave'sparadigmastowhatis,orisnot,goodforwomen,andtendtouseainterpretationofgenderandsexuality.Feministleadersrootedinthesecondwave,suchas,,ChelaSandoval,,,,andmanyotherblackfeminists,soughttonegotiateaspacewithinfeministthoughtforconsiderationofrace-relatedsubjectivities.
