variousitemstogowitheachletter(e.g.applemagnetfortheletterA)

&permanentmarker.Writetheupperandlowercaseletteroneach

wipebox,oneletterofthealphabetforeachbox.GetyourSstofill

eachboxwithitemsthatbeginwiththatletter.Somecanevenbe

picturesofitems(thiscanbedoneslowlyoveramatterof

weeks/months).Eachclassshowtheitemstothechildrenandpass

themaround,thiscaptivatesthechildren!

Oneboxisusedatatime.

Youdon'tevenhavetofillalltheboxesatoncebutfillthemasyougo

throughtheyear.Thishands-onexperienceisabighit!

AlphabetInstructionBasicSteps:

Therearemanywaystoteachthe

alphabetandallTsdeveloptheirownstyleovertime.FornewTshereis

abasicoutlineofstepsyoucanfollowwhenintroducinganewletter:

HoldupanalphabetletterflashcardsoallSscanseeit.2.Chorusthe

letter3to5times.ThenaskeachSindividuallytosaytheletter.3.Teach

thesoundoftheletter(e.g."Aisfor'ah'...ah-ah-ah").Chorusagain

andcheckindividually.4.Provideanexampleofanobjectthatbegins

withtheletter.Double-sidedflashcardswiththeletterononesideanda

pictureontheotheraregreatforthis.(e.g."What'sthis?

songandhavetheSsskiparoundinacirclesingingalongtothesong.

StopthetapeatrandompointsandtheSshavetolineupinthecorrect

alphabeticalorderaccordingtotheircards.

AlphabetSentences:

teammatesaysawordthatstartswiththatletter(like'Ant').Thenyougo

ontoasentencethatusestheletterAword('orexample'Aniceperson

Placeplasticlettersinabowl.Divideflashcardsbytheir

beginningletters.Eachstudentdrawsaletterfromthebowlandthen

Dividethea-zflashcardsamongallyourstudents.PutSs

inalineandplaytheABCsong.Asitplayseachstudentmustholdup

theircorrespondingalphabetflashcard.

theblackboard,oneissittingdownandoneisrunningbetweenthetwo.

Thestudentsittingdownhasasheetwiththealphabetprintedoutina

Placebothsetsfacedownonthefloor.Sstaketurnsinturningover2

cards(sayingthelettersaloud).IfthecardsmatchthentheSkeepsthe

cards.Ifthecardsaredifferentthecardsareturnedbackoveragainin

theiroriginalplaces.TheSwiththemostpairsattheendofthegameis

thewinner.Thisgameworkswellforupperandlowercaseletters(e.g.
