Balancedsociallife

Yournewfoundfreedomcanharmyouifyoudon’tcontroltheamountofyoursocialactivitiesenough.Therewillbenumerousactivitiestojoin–youcangetinvolvedinallofthese,butensureyouracademicperformancewillnotsufferbecauseofthis.Andtrynottospendtoomuchtimeonsocialmediasitesandansweringemails,textsandphonecalls.Remembertosignofffromsocialmediaeverynowthensinceeventhoughsocialisingisfun,toomuchofitandtoomuchcomputertimecanleadtomorestudyrelatedstress.Considereverydayasanewexperienceandberesponsiblewithyouractivities.

Organiseyourwork

Atuniversityyouneedtolearnhowtoorganiseyourworkandmakedecisionsonyourown.Beingresponsibleisthefirststeptowardslifeasanadult.Bepreparedthatyourlifewillchangefromwhatitusedtobebeforestartingatuniversity.Knowyourprioritiesandlearntobalanceyourtimeforstudiesandfun.

Avoidprocrastination

Procrastinatingtodothingsonlyincreasesyourstressinthelongrun.Procrastinationalsocanaffectmanyaspectsofyourdailylife,suchasthequalityofyourwork,thequalityofyoursleep,andyourmood. Timemanagementskillsarethekeytomanagingyourresponsibilities;accomplishyourgoalswhilestillhavingtimeforrestandrelaxation.

Realiseyourlimits

Youarenotarobotthathasunlimitedamountsofenergytodothings!

Time,energy,skills,knowledgeandotherthingscanbelimitingcauses.Realisethatweallhaveourlimits,andlearntoworkwithinyourlimits.Setrealisticexpectationsforyourselfandothers–weareallhuman!

Recognisewhatkindofthoughtsyouhavethatcauseyoustudyrelatedstress.Ifyourmindcontinuouslyfeedsyoumessagesaboutwhatyou“should”achieve,“ought”tobe,or“mustn’t”do,youarefallingshortwithyourgoalswhichmaybeunrealistic–andthiscausesalotofstress.Itisgoodtolearntosetrealisticgoalsandtoreplaceunrealisticthoughtswithmorerealisticones.

Sleepenough

Studentswhodonotsleepwellhavemorestress.Sleepingisimportant,anditnotonlyrechargesyourbody,butalsodevelopsstrongerimmunity.Sleepdeprivationcancausemanyphysicalandmentalproblemsandcanincreasestress.Itaffectsalsoyourabilitytothinkabout,respondtoandjudgesituations.Ensurethatyouarewellrestedbyfollowingregularasleepingpatternthatincludesasetbedtimeandasetwakingtime.Striveforatleasteighthoursofsleepeveryday.

Eatwell

Peoplewhoeatabalanceddietwithhealthyeatinghabitstendtofeellessstress.Avoidpoisoningyourbodywithjunkfoodsinceitcanbehighinfatandsugarwhichhelpsraiseyourstresslevel.Limit(oreliminate)theuseofstimulantslikecaffeineandenergydrinks,whichcanelevatethestressresponseinyourbody.Foodsthatarerichinfibreandlowinfattendtodotheopposite.Eatingfreshingredientsandlotsoffruitisreallyimportant.JuicesfilledwithvitaminC,suchasorange,aresaidtobegoodforyourimmunesystemandcanhelpwithstress.Donotskipbreakfast!
