conjunctionwithasensorformanifoldabsolutepressureMAPin

ordertoimproveidlingoperationcontrol.

PRISMPredictionandIdentificationSlidingModecontrol

airflow.Thissystemprovideshighlypreciseair/fuelcontrolforATmicrocomputer

O2sensor

betterfuelefficiencyaswellasloweremissionsImprovedexhausttemperaturemanagementcontrol.Thisconsists

ofenginefiringcontrolforquickenginewarm-upandconsequent

earlieractivationofthecatalyzerlocatedbelowtheexhaust

EGRvalve

manifold.ImprovedtemperatureestimationaccuracyoftheO2

sensorelementisanotherfactorpermittingearlierdeterminationofcatalyzeractivationExhaustgasrecirculationcontrolnotonlyforloweringtheexhausttemperature,butalsotakesincreasedadvantageofthe

stoichiometriczonebyimprovingfueleconomyandNOxreductionAdvancedtemperaturemanagementcontrolappliedtothecatalyzerbelowtheexhaustmanifoldOptimumlocationoftheECUintheenginecompartment.

MisfireDetectionSystemThe2006Civic'smisfiredetectionsystemusesapulsarplatethat

issecuredwiththreeboltstoacrankshaftweightinsidethe

crankcase.Increasedinstallationaccuracyensuresthatallmisfire

patternsaredetectable.

Pulsarplateinstalledon

crankshaftweightSinceallmisfirepatternsaredetected,thecylindermostdamaging

fastenedwith3bolts

tothecatalyzercannowbeidentifiedanditsfuelsupplycut,thus

limitinganydamagetothecatalyzer.

ServiceTalksWhenthesystemdetectsamisfire,themalfunctionindicatorlight

MILflashesandthesupplyoffueltothemisfiringcylinderis

interrupteduntiltheignitionswitchisturnedOFFEvenafterrecoveryfromafailure,theMILcontinuesflashing,fuel

supplytothecylinderremainsinterrupted,andthecorresponding

transientDTCissetIfmisfiringrepeatedlyoccursinanotherdrivingcycle,theMIL

Crankanglesensor

continuouslyflashes,fuelsupplytothecylinderremains

installedonL/B

interrupteduntiltheignitionswitchisturnedOFF,andthe

correspondingDTCissetWhentheignitionswitchisreturnedtoONinthenextdrivingcycle,

theMILcomesonindicatingmisfiringhasoccurred,andthisstate

continuesuntiltheDTCiserasedIfnoothermisfireoccursafteratransientDTChasbeenset,the

DTCisautomaticallyerasedfromthememoryafterthenext80

drivingcycles.

1.Placethethermo-caseendoftheEGRpipeon

thethermo-casestuds.

2.LooselyfastenthepipeendusingtheM8flange

nuts.

3.Attachthecatalyzerendofthepipetothe

connectinglocationonthecatalyzerbyloosely

fasteningtheM8flangebolts,andthentighten

theboltstothespecifiedtorque.

4.Finally,tightentheM8flangenutsonthe

thermo-caseendofthepipetothespecified

torque.

ServiceTalksInordertocompensateforthedimensional

differenceinrelatedparts,theholesinthe

intakemanifoldendoftheEGRpipearemade

largerthanthoseinthecatalyzerendofthe

pipe.Forthisreason,itisveryimportantto

followtheproceduredescribedabovetoavoid

givingexcessivestresstotheEGRpipeIftheprocedureisnotfollowedexactly,
