  IamathirdyearmastermajorinautomationatShanghaiJiaoTongUniversity,P.R.China.WithtremendousinterestinIndustrialEngineering,Iamwritingtoapplyforacceptanceintoyour.graduateprogram.

  Educationbackground

  In1995,IenteredtheNanjingUniversityofScience&Technology（NUST）--widelyconsideredoneoftheChina’sbestengineeringschools.Duringthefollowingundergraduatestudy,myacademicrecordskeptdistinguishedamongthewholedepartment.IwasgrantedFirstClassPrizeeverysemester,andmyoverallGPA100）rankedamong113students.In1999,Igottheprivilegetoenterthegraduateprogramwaivedoftheadmissiontest.IselectedtheShanghaiJiaoTongUniversitytocontinuemystudyforitsbestreputationonCombinatorialOptimizationandNetworkSchedulingwheremyresearchinterestlies.

  Attheperiodofmygraduatestudy,myoverallGPArankedtop5%inthedepartment.Inthesecondsemester,Ibecameteacherassistantthatisgiventotalentedandmaturedstudentsonly.Thisyear,IwontheAcerScholarshipastheoneandonlycandidateinmydepartment,whichistheultimateaccoladefordistinguishedstudentsendowedbymyuniversity.Presently,IampreparingmygraduationthesisandtryingforthehonorofExcellentGraduationThesis.

  Researchexperienceandacademicactivity

  Whenasophomore,IjoinedtheAssociationofAIEnthusiastandbegantonarrowdownmyinterestformyfutureresearch.In1997,IparticipatedinsimulationtooldevelopmentfortheschedulingsysteminProf.Wang’slab.WiththetoolofOpenGLandMatlab,Idesignedasimulationprogramfortransportationschedulingsystem.ItisnowwidelyusedbydifferentresearchgroupsinNUST.In1998,Iassumedandfulfilledasewageanalysis&disposeprojectforNanjingsewagetreatmentplant.Thiswasmyfirstpracticetoconvertalaboratoryideatoacommercialproduct.

  In1999,IjoinedthedistinguishedProfessorYu-GengXi'sresearchgroupaimingatNetworkflowproblemsolvingandHeuristicalgorithmresearch.SoonIwasengagedintheFuDanGeneDatabaseDesign.Mydutywastopickuptheusefulinformationamongdifferentkindsofgenematchingformat.Throughthecomparisonandanalysisformanyheuristicalgorithms,Iintroducedanimprovedevolutionaryalgorithm--Multi-populationGeneticAlgorithm.Bydividingawholepopulationintoseveralsub-populations,thisimprovedalgorithmcaneffectivelypreventGAfromlocalconvergenceandpromotevariousevolutionaryorientations.ItprovedmoreefficientlythanSGAinexperiments,too.Inthesecondsemester,Ijoinedtheworkshop-schedulingresearchinShanghaiHeavyDutyTyreplant.Theschedulingwasdesignedfortherubber-makingprocessthatcoverednotonlydiscretebutalsocontinuouscircumstances.Tomakeabalancepointbetweenoptimizationqualityandtimecost,IproposedaDynamicLayeredSchedulingmethodbasedonhybridPetriNets.Thepracticalapplicationshowedthattheaveragemakespanwasshortenedbyalargescale.Ialsopublicizedtwopapersincorejournalswiththisidea.Recently,IamdoingresearchintheCompositePredictoftheElectricalPowersystemassistedwiththetechnologyofDataMiningforBaoSteel.ItrytocombinetheDecisionTreewithRecedingOptimizationtoprovideanewsolutionfortheCompositePredictiveProblem.Thisprojectisnowunderconstruction.

  Besides,InJuly2000,IgottheopportunitytogivealectureinEnglishinAsiaControlConference（ASCC）whichisoneofthetop-levelconferencesamongtheworldintheareaofcontrolandautomation.Inmysenioryear,ImetProf.Xiao-SongLin,avisitingprofessorofmathematicsfromUniversityofCalifornia-Riverside,Ilearnedgraphtheoryfromhimformynetworkresearch.TheseexperiencesallrapidlyexpandedmyknowledgeofEnglishandtheunderstandingofwesternculture.

  Ihopetostudyindepth

  Inretrospect,Ifindmyselfstandingonasolidbasisinboththeoryandexperience,whichhaspreparedmeforthe.program.Myfutureresearchinterestsinclude:

NetworkSchedulingProblem,HeuristicAlgorithmresearch（especiallyinGAandNeuralnetwork）,Supplychainnetworkresearch,HybridsystemperformanceanalysiswithPetrinetsandDataMining.  Pleasegivemyapplicationmaterialsaseriousconsideration.Thankyouverymuch.

　　First,IhopeIcanformsystematicviewof.Asfor,myexpresswishistogetacompletecomprehensionoftheformationanddevelopmentaswellas.Ifpossible,Iwillgoonwithmystudyfordoctoratedegree.

　　Inaword,Iamlookingforwardtomakingasolidfoundationforfutureprofessionaftertwoyearsstudyhere.

　　IfluckilyIgotthechancetolearnenvironmentengineeringinTongjiUniversity,Iwillconcentrateonthestudyandresearchinthisfield.First,Iwillhardtolearnthetheoreticalknowledge,constructingasolidbaseformyfuturework；Second,Iwouldliketodosomepracticalworkwiththehelpofthesupervisorandclassmate.Andthroughthis,Icangetsomethingthatcannotbeacquiredfromthetextbooks.Ibelieveafter2yearsoflearning,mydreamwillfinallycometrue……

　　Firstofall,Ilovemymajor.ChineseliteratureisthesymbolofthestartofChineseliterarymodernization.Itplaysanimportantpartinmodernizationofourcitizens'thoughts.What’smore,modernliteratureisveryclosetoourdailylifeanditcandeeplyreflectthestylesandfeaturesofoursociety.Iamfascinatedbythegreatmastersrefreshingorwarmorprofoundstylesaswell.ButIamnoteasilysatisfiedwithsuchsuperficialknowledge.IhopeIcouldhaveabetterunderstandinginmodernliteraturebystudyingfurther.Thisisaveryimportantreasonformetotakethepostgraduateexams.
