ATaleofTwoCities教学案
教学目标:
1)阅读小说ATaleofTwoCites部分节选(有改编),理解小说的背景、主要人物、关系及故事梗概,掌握一定的文学常识;
2)帮助学生在小说阅读过程中掌握一些技巧;
3)培养学生对小说阅读的兴趣并养成一定的阅读习惯。
教学重点:
小说阅读的技能训练。
教学难点:
在上下文背景资料缺乏的情况下如何根据节选部分提供的信息充分理解阅读内容。
预习作业:
1)通过网络了解CharlesDickens的生平、所属文学流派、写作风格及主要作品。
2)复习牛津英语第八模块第一单元的Reading部分,巩固对Classicalliterature的印象。
3)阅读下面一则关于CharlesDickens的补充阅读材料。
CharlesDickens(7February1812–9June1870)wasanEnglishwriterandsocialcritic(批评家).Hecreatedsomeoftheworld’sbest-knownfictionalcharactersandisregardedasthegreatestnovelistoftheVictorianera(维多利亚时代).Hisworksenjoyedgreatpopularityduringhislifetime,andbythetwentiethcenturycriticsandscholarshadrecognizedhimasaliterarygenius.Hisnovelsandshortstoriesenjoylastingpopularity.
BorninPortsmouth,Dickensleftschooltoworkinafactorywhenhisfatherwasputinprisonforfailingtopaybackdebts.Despitehislackofformaleducation,heeditedaweeklyjournalfor20years,wrote15novels,fivenovellas(中篇小说),hundredsofshortstoriesandnon-fictionarticles,andfoughtactivelyforchildren’srights,education,andothersocialreforms.
Dickens’sliterarysuccessbeganwiththe1836serialpublicationofThePickwickPapers.Withinafewyearshehadbecomeaninternationalliterarycelebrity,famousforhishumor,satire(讽刺),andkeenobservationofcharacterandsociety.
Dickenswasregardedastheliterarycolossusofhisage.His1843novella,AChristmasCarol,remainspopularandcontinuestoinspireadaptationsineveryartisticgenre.OliverTwistandGreatExpectationsarealsofrequentlyadapted,and,likemanyofhisnovels,evokeimagesofearlyVictorianLondon.His1859novel,ATaleofTwoCities,setinLondonandParis,ishisbest-knownworkofhistoricalfiction.
