FlyCapDemoProgram

TheFlyCapapplicationisastreamingimagevieweryoucanusetotestmanyofthecapabilitiesofyourcompatiblePointGreycamera.Itallowsyoutoviewalivevideostreamfromthecamera,aswellassaveindividualimages,adjustthevariousvideoformats,framerates,propertiesandsettingsofthecamera,andaccesscameraregisters. 

ThefullFlyCap C++/C#sourcecodeisincludedwiththeFlyCaptureSDK.ToaccesstheFlyCapworkspacefromtheStartmenu,selectProgramFiles>FlyCapture2SDK>Examples.

StartingFlyCap

TorunFlyCapfromtheStartmenu,selectProgramFiles>FlyCapture2SDK>FlyCap2.TheCameraSelectionDialogopens.

FlyCap2consistsoftwoprimaryinterfaces:

theMainWindowandtheCameraControlDialog.

CameraSelectionDialog

WhenFlyCapstarts,theCameraSelectiondialogappears.ThisdialogallowsyoutoviewalistofallthecurrentlyconnectedPointGreycameras,acrossallbuses,andselectonetocontrolandviewimagesfrom.Itprovidesbasicinformationforeachcamera,suchasmodeltype,serialnumber,maximumresolution,andtheimagingsensor.

GigabitEthernet-relatednetworkinformationisalsoavailableforanyGigEVisioncamerasthatareconnected.

IfyourGigEVisioncameradoesnotappearunderCameraList,thecameramaybeonadifferentsubnetfromtheinterfacecard.Tofix,clickAutoForceIP.  

Tobegingrabbingimages,selectacameraandclickOK.TheFlyCapMainWindowopens.

YoucanopenmultipleinstancesoftheFlyCapMainWindowbyselectingmorethanonecamera. Notethatthenumberofactivecamerasislimitedbythebandwidthofthebus.Formoreinformation,refertoKnowledgeBaseArticle22.

ToaccesstheCameraControlDialogpriortograbbingimages,selectacameraandclickConfigureSelected.Onceyouhavefinishedconfiguringthecamera,closetheCameraControldialogandclickOKtobegingrabbingimages.

FlyCapMainWindow

AfterselectingacameraintheCameraSelectiondialog,theFlyCapmainwindowopensanddisplaysalivevideostreamfromthecamera.

WindowSize

TheFlyCapwindowsizesitselftoaccommodatethecurrentresolutionofthecamera;ifthecamera'soutputresolutionisgreaterthanthescreenresolution,scrollbarsappear.TheFlyCapwindowcanbemaximizedbyhittingtheF12key,orselectingView>Fullscreen.

Asanalternativetousingscrollbarstoviewotherareasofalargeresolutionimage,youcanleft-click+holdyourmousepointerwithinthedisplaywindowtodragthedisplayedportionaround.

WindowComponents

TheFlyCapmainwindowincludesthefollowingcomponents:

TitleBar

Thetitlebaratthetopofthewindowdisplaysthecameramodelandserialnumber.

MenuBar

File

∙NewCamera:

 （Ctrl+N）Stopsthecurrentcameraandopensthe CameraSelectionDialog. 

∙Startimagetransfer:

Re-startsthecameraafterithasbeenstopped. 

∙Stopimagetransfer:

 Stopsthecamera. 

∙SaveAs:

 （Ctrl+S）Opensadialog tosavethecurrentimage.Formoreinformation,seeRecordingVideoandSavingImages.

∙CaptureVideoorImageSequence:

（F9）Opensadialogforrecordingvideoorimagesequences.

∙Exit:

（Ctrl+Q）ClosesFlyCapture.

View

∙GraphicMode�Threechoices:

oGDI:

Ifselected,imagesarerenderedtoscreenusingtheWindowsGraphicsDeviceInterface（GDI）.

oOpenGL:

Ifselected,imagesarerenderedtoscreenusingtheOpenGraphicsLibrary（OpenGL）interface.UsingOpenGLonsupportedsystemsmayimproverenderingperformance.However,insomecasesOpenGLmayinteractpoorlywithothersystemprocessesandproduceunexpectedbehavior.

oDirect2D:

ThisisavailableonWindows7only.Ifselected,imagesarerenderedtoscreenusingDirect2D.IfusingDirect2DandtheFlyCapexampleprogram,youmustusetheVisualStudio2010versionfoundat:

∙DrawImage:

 Whenselected,allowsimagestreaming.Whenunselected,pausesstreaming.

∙DrawCrosshair:

 （F7）IfDrawImageisselected,insertsacrosshairinthecenteroftheimagepane.

∙ChangeCrosshairColor:

 OpenstheColorSelectiondialogtochangethecrosshaircolor.

∙ShowToolbar:

 （F8）Ifselected,displaystheToolbar.Seebelowformoreinformation.

∙ShowInformationPanel:

 （F11）Ifselected,displaystheInformationPanel.Seebelowformoreinformation.

∙ShowStatusBar:

 Ifselected,displaystheStatusBar.Seebelowformoreinformation.

∙StretchToFitIfselected,adjuststheimagedimensionstofitthesizeofthecurrentwindow.Thissettingdoesnotaffecttheresolutionorsizeofanysavedimages.

∙Fullscreen:

 （F12）ChangesthesizeoftheFlyCapMainWindowtofittheentirescreen.

∙ColorProcessingAlgorithm:

SetsthecolorprocessingalgorithmusedtointerpolaterawBayer-tileimagesintofullcolor.Formoreinformationaboutcolorprocessingalgorithms,refertoKnowledgeBaseArticle33.

∙ToggleCameraControlDialog:

OpensorshiftsfocustotheCameraControlDialog.

DisplaysAboutFlyCapture2;oropenstheOnlineHelp.

Toolbar

Choosenewcamera-stopsthecurrentcameraandopenstheCameraSelectionDialog.

Re-startsthecameraafterithasbeenstopped. 

Stopsthecamera.

Opensadialogforrecordingvideoorimagesequences.

Savesthecurrentimage.Formoreinformation,seeRecordingVideoandSavingImages.

OpenstheCameraControldialog.

OpenstheFlyCaptureHistogramdialog.Thisdialogprovidesstatisticalinformationabouttherepresentationofvaluesinthecurrentimage,includinggrey,red,greenandbluechannelvalues,hue,saturationandlightness.Onlygreyscalevaluesarerepresentedonmonochromecameras,orcolorcamerasstreaminginamonochromeformat. 

OpenstheEventStatisticsdialog.

Zoomsinandoutontheimagedisplay,orrestoresto100%.

InformationPane

FrameRate

Displaysthefollowinginformationabouttheframerateofthecamerasystem:

∙Processed:

ThenumberofframespersecondthePCisprocessing.

∙Displayed:

ThenumberofframespersecondthatthePCdisplayisupdating.

∙Requested:

ThenumberofframespersecondthatthecameraistransmittingtothePC.Thisistheactualframeratesettingofthecamera.

Timestamp

Displaysthefollowingtimestampinformationforthecurrentimage:

∙SecondsandMicroseconds:

BasedonthePCsystemclock.

∙1394cycletimeseconds,countandoffset:

Basedonthe1394cycletimercameraregister.

Image

Displaysthecurrentsettingsforimageresolution（width,height）inpixels,pixelformat,andnumberofbitsperpixelrepresentedbytheformat.

EmbeddedImageInfo

Displaystheimagepropertyvaluesthatarecurrentlybeingembeddedinthefirstrowofimagepixels（excepttimestamp,whichisdisplayedabove）.Toconfigureimageinformationembedding,seeAdvancedCameraSettings.

Diagnostics

Informationtohelpdiagnosecameraandbuserrors,including:

∙Skippedframes:

Thenumberofimagessincethestartofcapturethatwerenottransmittedtothehostsystem,andsubsequentlydropped,duetoabufferoverflowonthecamera.  

∙Linkrecoverycount:

Thenumberoftimesthecamerareconnectsafterabriefinterruption,suchasduetoafaultycableorotherconnectionproblem.

∙Transmitfailures:

Thenumberofimagedatatransmissionssincethestartofcapturethatwerenotcompletedduetoabufferoverflowonthecamera.Transmitfailuresmayresultintornimages.Seerelatedknowledgebasearticle,below.

∙Timesinceinitialization:

Timesincethecameralastbootedup.

∙Timesincelastbusreset:

Timesincethelastbusresetoccurred.

StatusBar

Thestatusbar,alongthebottomofthewindow,displaysthefollowinginformation:

FrameRate

SeeInformationPane,above.

Cursor

Whenthemouseisplacedovertheimage,thecurrentposition（width,height）ofthemousecursorwithinthepixelarray.

RGB

Incolorimages,thebrightnessvaluesofthered,greenandbluechannelsofthepixelatthecurrentcursorposition.

Zoom

ThepercentageofmagnificationintheimagewhenView>StretchToFitischecedintheMenuBar.

Image/DisplaySize

Imagesizeisthecurrentresolutionofthecamera（width,height）. Displaysizeisthecurrentsizeofthedisplayareainthemainwindow.

CameraControlDialog

TheCameraControldialogallowsyoutocontrolmostcamerasettings.

Toincludethisdialogwithinacustomsoftwareapplication,linktoFlyCapture2GUI.libandcreateanewCameraGUIContextwithinyourapplication.RefertotheFlyCap2demosourcecodeforanexampleofhowtodothis.
