Theoften-humorous,marked-upimagesknownasmemeshavealsocomeinforcriticism.Theylowerdowntraditionalformsofpublicdebate,spreadingfarandwidewithlittlecontext.Butmemesservedifferentpurposesindifferentcultures.InIndiatheytendtofocusonseriousandreligiousissues;Trinidadianmemesaremoreoftensend-upsofpoliticians.YetinallcasesDrMillerseesmeme-passingnotaslimitingwhatsocialmediausersthinkandsay,butasenablingconversations.Manyusershappilyforwardmemeswithstrongpoliticaloreconomicmessagesaboutwhichtheywouldnotdaretocommentindividually.
