CareInternationalisoneoftheworld’slargestdevelopmentorganisations.Ithasover500projectsin72countriesinAsia,Africa,SouthAmerica,theMiddleEastandEasternEurope.EveryyearCAREhelpstoimprovethelivesofnearly30millionoftheworld’spoorestpeople.
AlthoughCAREreceivesmoneyfromwealthydevelopedcountriesandinternationalinstitutionssuchastheUnitedNations,itisanindependentorganisationandnogovernmentscontrolit.Millionsofdollarsarealsogivenbyprivatecomoaniesandordinarypeoplearoundworld.
CARE’sgoalistireducepovertyandhungerindevelopingcountriesandthereforeincreasethelifeexpectancyoftheinhabitantsofthesecountries.Theorganisationhasofficesin11countriesaroundtheworldanditspermanentworkersorganisethedevelopmentprogrammes.ThousandsofCAREvolunteersworkwithlocalpeopleonavarietyofprojectsintheareasofeducation,agriculture,health,care,watersafetyandbuildingbusinesses.HereareexamplesofCAREprojects.
Insomeplacesthereisdiseasebecausepeopledrinkdirtywater.InKenya,volunteersareworkingwithlocalpeopletoimprovewatersystemsin48villages.Inbangladesh,althoughthereisplentyofwater,inmanyplacesitisnotsafetodrink.CAREisteachinglocalpeoplehowtobuildtheirowncheapwatersystems.
In2001,projectsin39countrieshelpedmorethan800,000peopleincreasetheirincimes.CARElendspeoplemoneytostartsmallbusinessesanditsvolunteersteachthembasicfinancialskills.AprogrammeinBolivia.

∙TheIndustrialRevolution
InEurope,inthesecondhalfoftheeighteenthcentury,therewasanimportantchangeinsociety.Thischangewascalledthe‘IndustrialRevolution.’Untilthen,Europehadbeenafarmingsociety.WiththeIndustrialRevolution,factoriesappearedandmassproductionbecamepossibleforthefirsttime.Thefactorieswerebuiltintownsandasaresult,thepopulationoftownsandcitiesgreatlyincreased.
Thesechangesbecamepossiblebecauseofinventionssuchasthesteamengine.Thiswasinventedin1769byJamesWattandwasthemainenergysourceduringtheIndustrialRevolution.Atfirstthesteamenginewasusedinmines,butitwassoonusedinfactoriesandontherailways.
DuringtheIndustrialRevolution,factoryownersbecamemorepowerfulthanlanfowners.Thousandsofpeopleleftthecountrysidetoworkinthecity.Often,factoryworkerslivedinpoorandcrowdedconditions.From1830totheearly20century ,theIndustrialRevolutionspreadthroughEuropeandtheUSandthentoothercountriessuchasJapan

1.概述18世纪从英国发起的技术革命是技术发展史上的一次巨大革命,它开创了以机器代替手工工具的时代。
这不仅是一次技术改革,更是一场深刻的社会变革。
这场革命是以工作机的诞生开始的,以蒸汽机作为动力机被广泛使用为标志的。
这一次技术革命和与之相关的社会关系的变革,被称为第一次工业革命或者产业革命。
从生产技术方面来说,工业革命使工厂制代替了手工工场,用机器代替了手工劳动;从社会关系来说,工业革命使依附于落后生产方式的自耕农阶级消失了,工业资产阶级和工业无产阶级形成和壮大起来。
2.起因①17世纪中期的英国资产阶级革命,推翻了英国的封建专制制度,建立了资产阶级和土地贵族联盟为基础的君主立宪制度。
资产阶级利用国家政权加速推行发展资本主义的政策和措施,促进了工业革命各种前提条件的迅速形成。
②资产阶级通过大规模地对外掠夺以及在国内实行的国债制度和消费税政策,积累了巨额财富,为工业革命提供了所必须的货币资金;大规模的圈地运动,为工业革命提供了大量的“自由”劳动力和广阔的国内市场。
③工场手工业的蓬勃发展,培养了大批富有实践经验的熟练工人,为机器的发明和应用创造了条件;自然科学的发展及其成就,特别是牛顿的力学和数学,为机器的产生奠定了科学理论基础。
④蓬勃发展的工场手工业,积累了丰富的生产技术知识,增加了产量,但仍然无法满足不断扩大的市场需求。
于是,一场生产手段的革命呼之欲出。
工业革命首先出现于工场手工业新兴的棉纺织业。
1733年,机械师凯伊发明了飞梭,大大提高了织布速度,棉纱顿时供不应求。
1765年,织工哈格里夫斯发明了“珍妮纺纱机”,大幅度增加了棉纱产量。
“珍妮纺纱机”的出现首先在棉纺织业中引发了发明机器、进行技术革新的连锁反应,揭开了工业革命的序幕。
此后,在棉纺织业中出现了骡机、水力织布机等机器。
不久,在采煤、冶金等许多工业部门,也都陆续有了机器生产。
随着机器生产的增多,原有的动力如畜力、水力和风力等已经无法满足需要。
在英国伯明翰,1785年,瓦特制成的改良型蒸汽机投入使用,提供了更加便利的动力,得到迅速推广,大大推动了机器的普及和发展。
人类社会由此进入“蒸汽时代”。
随着工业生产中机器生产逐渐取代手工操作,一种新型的生产组织形式——资产阶级工厂诞生了。
1840年前后,英国的大机器生产已基本取代了工场手工业生产,工业革命基本完成。
英国成为世界第一个工业国家。

欧洲其他国家虽然也有杰出能干的工人,也有具有发明精神的人,但这些国家缺乏发展机器工业所需要的资金、劳动力和市场,以及保证资本主义经济发展的政治、文化等条件。
在1789年,法国爆发了大革命,废除了封建统治阶级的特权,为资本主义工业化扫除了障碍。
拿破仑当政后,十分重视科学技术的发展,为法国的工业革命(18世纪末19世纪初--19世纪中期)创造了条件。
此后,德国、美国、俄国、日本等国也纷纷加入工业革命的行列,到19世纪末,这些国家先后都完成了工业革命。
标志是瓦特改良蒸汽机,大大提高了丝织品生产速度。
由于英国率先完成了工业革命,成为了当时最富强的国家。
