In1921,hewontheNobelPrizeinPhysics.Itwasgiventohimnotforhistheoriesofrelativity,butforhisdiscoveryofthelawofthephotoelectriceffect(光电效应).

AlbertEinsteinleftGermanyin1933.HemovedtotheUnitedStatestocontinuehisresearch.EinsteinbecameacitizenoftheUnitedStatesin1940.

Einsteinwasafamousman,butyouwouldnothaveknownthatbylookingathim.Hiswhitehairwaslongandwild.Heworeoldclothes.Heshowedaninnerjoywhenhewasplayinghisviolinortalkingabouthiswork.Studentsandfriendssaidhehadawayofexplainingdifficultideasusingimagesthatwereeasytounderstand.

Einsteinspentthelasttwenty-fiveyearsofhislifeworkingonwhathecalleda"unifiedfieldtheory".Hehopedtofindacommonmathematicalstatementthatcouldtietogetherallthedifferentpartsofphysics.Hedidnotsucceed.
