Theshortingstripsareusedtoachievemorebalancedcurrentdistributionsonthepatches.

Themaindirectionofelectricfieldonthepatchesisalongwiththex-axisandthecurrentsalongwithy-axisaresmaller,whichcontributestoagoodcross-polarizationperformance.

TheconjugatematchbetweentheantennaandthemicrochipcanbetunedbyadjustingtheperimeterandthelinewidthoftheloopoftheT-matchingnetwork.Anelectricalcouplingisgeneratedaroundthegapbetweenthetwopatches,whichincreasesthebandwidthoftheantenna.Thebandwidthoftheproposedantennacanbecontrolledinacertaindegreebyalternatingthewidthofthisgaporthelinewidthofthetwoshortingstrips.Eventually,theproposedantennaisoptimizedtohavetheconjugatematchbetweenitselfandthemicrochip.Also,somespacesamongthepatchesandtheT-matchingnetworkarereservedfortuningtheT-matchingnetworktogetanimpedancematchingwithoutmodificationsofthetwopatchesinthecaseofothermicrochipischosen.

Oneconventionalmatchingtechniqueinsuchasituationisanimplementationofadditionalseparatematchingcircuitbasedoninductors.However,aconventionalwayisnowproblematicbecauseitunacceptablyincreasesproductioncosts.Moreover,aseparatematchingcircuitcausesextralossesthateventuallyalsostronglyreducesystemperformance.Consequently,theantennaimpedanceshouldbematcheddirectlywithASICofthetransponder.
