Abstract:

JaneEyreiswrittenbyCharlotteBrontewhoisthefamousEnglishnovelist.ItsuccessfullypresentsthefirstfemalecharacterinthehistoryofEnglishliteraturethattakesanindependentandpositiveattitudetowardslove,life,societyandreligionanddarestostruggleandstriveforfreedomandequality.Becausethenovelthrobswiththeheart-beatsofitsauthor,bothliterarycriticsandthereadershavetakengreatinterestinitsheroine.JaneEyre,whoseunconventionalityisshownintheheroine’spursuitofliberty,equalityandindependence.ThisessayattemptstoproveJane’sfeministviewoflovethroughtheanalysisofherpersonality.TheimageofJaneEyreisbrilliantforherrebelliouscharacter.Shealwaysinsistsonherprincipletofightbravelyagainsttheunfairworld.Shestilltriesherbesttopursuitfreedom,equality,independenceandtruelove.Byunremittingefforts,shefinallygetsdignity,freedomandtruelove.

摘要:

《简•爱》是英国著名小说家夏洛蒂.勃朗特的代表作。

它成功的塑造出了第一个在英国文学史上敢于追求真爱,同社会和命运抗争的女权主义形象。

因为它不仅触动了作者的心,同时也震撼了文学评论界以及使读者对非传统的女主角产生了极大的兴趣。

简爱,她的不平凡的特点表现在对自由,平等以及独立的追求。

这篇论文试图对简爱性格的分析来阐述简爱的女权主义爱情观。

简爱,这个正面人物形象主要是她的反抗精神。

她坚持自己的原则去不断反抗不公平的社会。

她用尽全力去追求自由,平等,独立和真爱。

经过坚持不懈的努力她最终获得自尊,自由和真爱。

JaneEyreisanimagewhichiswrittenbyCharlotteBronte,whoisagreatcriticalrealistin19thcentury.Shehaswrittenalotofworksinherlife.ButJaneEyreisherfamouswork.Shetriestocreatanewimage.Followedbythat,JaneEyrecomesintobeing.However,howdoestheauthorcreatthisnewimage?

Insomeextent,JaneEyreisamirroroftheauthor.CharlotteBronteendowshercharactersandexperiencetoJaneEyre.Actually,shewritesaboutherselfandexpressherideasinhermind.Theauthoraimsatawakeningwomen’sconsciousnesstofightagainsttheunjustworld.TheanalysesofJaneEyre’spersonalitiesandherattitudestowardslovehaveshowntheindependenceofJane’slove.Thestoryhasopenedanewdimensionforwomen.SheleavesgreatinfluenceinEnglishliterature.

Inthatperiod,womenhadaverylowsocialstatus,especiallygoverness.Governessusuallylivedintheirmaster’shomeandeducatedchildrennotonlyinacademicalfieldsbutalsoinarts.Butgovernesswerealwayslookeddownbypeopleinfamily.Governesseswerenottreatedthesameasotherfamilymembers.

InCharlotteBronte’snovel,JaneEyreisagoverness.Sheisoftenlookeddownuponbyupperclass.Itisamirrorthatreflectstherealofthesociety.Theseunfairthingshadalsohappenedtotheauthor.Thenoveliswrittentocriticizethesociety.Inthattime,JaneEyreisafeministwork.ShedarestolovehismasterMr.Rochesterandfightagainsttheunjustworld.Sheisbraveenoughtopursuelove.Sheisarepresentativeofmiddle-classwoman,whofightsagainstfateandlongsforbasicrights.

2.2TheAuthor’sExperience

CharlotteBrontewasborninapoorfamily.Herfatherwasapoorminister,whograduatedfromSt.John’scollege,Cambridge.Hetaughthischildren.Theirmotherwasalovelywomanandgoodatexpressingheremotionsinwords.Unfortunately,whenBrontewasstillyoung,hermotherdied.Afterthat,herfatherbecamequite.Besides,hebecamestricttohischildren.Thoughthefamilywaspoor,CharlotteBronteandhersistersweresenttoaccepteducation.Aftergraduating,oneofthembecameateacher,andtheotheronewasagoverness.In1842,theyopenedaschool.However,happinesswassoshort.Unfortunatethingshappenedtoher.Hertwosistersandherbrotherdied.Thiswasabigblowtoher,whichhadagreatinfluenceonherandherwritingcareer.

3.TheDevelopmentofJaneEyre’sResistance

48)Shecannotacceptheraunt’simputation.Janesuffersviolenttreatmentsfromherauntandcousins,althoughshedoesherbesttobeagoodgirlbutisonlyinfailureinheraunt’seyes.

Janefightsagainandagain,butshefinallybreaksout.Jane’sbehaviorsfrightensMrsReed,becausesheknowsJaneisright.InGateshead,Jane’sresistanceisexpressedstepbystep.Herbehaviorsshowhercourageanddetermination.Jane’sfightnotonlyjustfortreatment,butalsoforequality.ThisisthefirststepofthedevelopmentofJane’spersonality.

3.2Jane’sResistanceatLowoodInstitution

LowoodInstitutionisacharityschoolforpoorgirls.Janeliveshereforsixyearsandworksherefortwoyears.Herresistancehasfurtherdevelopment.Infact,itisahellforgirls.Childrenherearenotsuppliedwithenoughfood.Sometimestheyaresuppliedwithbadfood.What’sworse,themedicalconditionsaresobadthatmanyofthemdieofillness.Theleadersoftheinstitutionhavenoloveandsympathyatall.ChildrenhavetoprayforGodandthankforoppressors.Helen,aclever,kindandbeautifulgirl,receivesbeatsandfinallylosesheryounglife.ShebelievesinGod.ShesaystoJane,“Iamsurethereisafuturestate;IbelieveGodisgood;IcanresignmyimmortalparttoHimwithoutanymisgiving.Godismyfather;Godismyfriend:

121)Justbecauseofherideas,shehaslittlerebelsagainstthatkindofcrueltreatment.Herpersonalityisthereasonofhersadend.ButJaneisnotlikeHelen.Sheisnotwillingtobetreatedbadlybyothers.EspeciallyfromHelen’sdeath,Janelearnsthatshemustfightagainstthisunjustworld.JaneisnotlikeHelen.Shealwaysrebels.Shebelievesifpeoplearealwaysobedienttothosewhoarecruel,thewickedwouldhaveitalltheirownway.

What’smore,MissTempleisanindependentandkindfemale.JanelovesandadmireshersomuchthatshedreamsshewillbeanotherMissTempleoneday.FromMissTemple’skindness,Janelongsforideallife.SoafterMissTemple’sleavefromLowood,shecannotstandisolation.Shethinksitistimeforhertoleave.Janelooksforwardtoanewformoflife.Thenshemakesanadvertisementandgetsajobasagoverness.ItsuggeststhatJane’sresistancebecomematurer.

3.3Jane’sResistanceBecomesPerfectatThornfieldandMoorHouse

AtThornfield,Janechangesherharshnessintogentlenessandbecomesarefinedwomanwithgoodeducation.Shegetsalongwellwitheveryonethere.Janeismildtoeveryone.ShepatientlyteachesAdele,agirlwithouttalent.Insuchaplace,sheforgetsherpainandmisery.What’smore,shelearnstobetoleranttoothers’shortcomings.WhenshefirstlyseesRochester,heisrudetoJane.Inspiteofhisrudeness,shesays,“Icannotthinkofleavingyou,sir,atsolateanhour,inthissolitarylane,tillIseeyoufittomountyourhorse.’’(Bronte,2002:

173)HearingthatMrs.Reedisdying,shecomesbacksoontoGateshead.AlthoughsheoncetoldMrs.Reedthatshewouldnevercomeback.Butfinallysheforgivesher.

AlthoughJanelovesMr.Rochester,shestillkeepshermindclear.Shedarestosay“no’’toanyoneincludinghermaster,Mr.Rochester,inordertokeephercharacters.WhenshetalkswithMr.Rochester,shedoesnotavoidsayingwhatshebelievesanddoesnotcarewhetherMr.Rochesterishappyornot.WhenJaneknowsMr.Rochester’swifeisstillalive,sheleavesMr.Rochesterwithoutanyhesitation.ShecannotacceptshewillbetheloverofMr.Rochesterifshestillaccepthim.ThisistheclimaxofJane’sresistance.Toher,loveisnotthemostimportantthing.Shecannotsacrificeherself-respecttogetlove.Besides,thefactthatJanerefusestomarrySt.JohncanalsoproveJane’sresistance.ThisperiodistheperfectionofJane’sresistance.
